Through used pickups at EB Games, Blockbuster, Walmart, plus a rather large donation from a friend of mine who's a whore for the newest games, I've managed to amass a collection of 90 PS2 games. I might as well put them to decent use and do some reviews.

Instead of a seven to ten scoring system like Gamespot uses, I'll simply recommend the game or not.

    Rock Band

    Released 2007

After selling the Guitar Hero license to Activision, Harmonix sought to expand the game play they developed on Guitar Hero into a full four piece band game.

Players can now sing like it's karaoke night at the bar, make a lot of annoying noise on the Fisher Price drum kit or pretend they can play a real guitar on tiny child sized plastic guitars.

For the most part the new instruments work well. The karaoke game play only served to highlight how limited my vocal range is. It seems like the game has issues detecting lower notes, but then that could just be me. My voice is already low pitched after all. Drums took a little getting used to. I had trouble timing my strikes to the notes on screen but once I got settled into it, it proved to be fun and entertaining. The guitar controller is in my opinion an improvement over the previous Guitar Hero controllers. Buttons are flat along the neck and the strum bar is better suited to my base guitar style of playing. Plus it's larger than previous versions. Old Guitar Hero guitars work with the game as well.

Of course in this type of game everything depends upon your own musical preferences. It's important to always check the songlist before purchasing any of these games. The greatest peripheral setup won't change your musical tastes.

If there are certain songs on the list you absolutely can't stand then you'll just have to stick cotton in your ears and soldier on through it because unlike previous Guitar Hero games you have to play every song on a set list before advancing. Fucking ghey.

PS2 users had totally gotten the shaft in game content too. Character creation and stores are completely absent. Pre-designed bands fill the spot on songs. If you do want the game try and get it for PS3 or Xbox 360 if you can.

With that issue in mind I really can't recommend the PS2 version of the game to anyone unless you get it at a low sale price like I did.
