Sad, but not surprising. I own a PS3 and a PS4. Likely not going to buy another console (including the PS5) for a long, long time. Hopefully the PS4 store stays open for as long as the PS3 one did... 15 years?
It's official. The PS3, PSP and PS Vita stores are being shut down. Received the email notification on Monday.
I haven't used my PS3 in at least 5-6 years, the last time I used my PS4 Pro was sometime last year around January. And that was after getting it replaced due to overheating. I had it for about year when it started doing that. It took me almost three years to take back, I bought a protection plan on it for 4 years. When I took it back I had 2 days left on it. I used it maybe twice last year. I use my Xbox One S about 4-6 times a month, and when I do it's only for about an hour at a time. I can't play any more or longer than that. I have a Xbox Gold, Xbox Game Pass, and a EA subscription, with those I have around 120 games or so on the console, the console has a 1TB drive and another 5TB external drive. I play maybe 6-8 of those games on a somewhat regular basis. One of the guys I work with plays 8-10 hours on Saturdays and Sundays, each day on a regular basis.
I've had an XBOX One for about 5-1/2 years now, and haven't had a Sony PSxyz in quite some time. Haven't actually played a VIDEO GAME on any kind of "hook it up the TV console" in at least five years. I just use the XBOX One to watch Blu-Ray discs and stream Disney+ / HBO Max / Amazon Prime Video. I am a little surprised that the PS3 / PSP stores are even still open at all. Does this contribution count much to the thread? I doubt it.

Looks like Sony underestimated how many folks still use their PS3. Setting aside graphics quality and processing speed, the PS3 is an infinitely better machine than the PS4. Sony's biggest blunder with the PS4 was the lack of backwards compatibility and the fact that the Pro version didn't support 4K discs (although it does support 4K streaming). I own both a PS3 and PS4, but I have no idea about the PS5 because I'm likely going to stop purchasing consoles.
This is why we shouldn't be in such a big hurry to get rid of physical media. Having our movie and game collections at the whims of corporate America is just a bad fucking idea.
The last PSxyz I had was a PS3. What, in your opinion, makes the PS3 better than the PS4? (As you said, setting aside graphic and processing).
Off the top of my head... Backwards compatibility, better games, friendlier user interface, less ads (PS4 constantly pushes ads on its home screen).
Oof. The Ad thing is no good for sure. I think one of the main reasons I've never gotten a newer console is that there just doesn't seem to be any innovation in games anymore. All the genres are set and now it's just Madden 769693, Call of Duty 53, Final Fantasy 80, and God of War 922.
