Just letting you know that if you're using the Plainsmen theme, and you thought you were on acid, I have good news: it was PCP, also I've been trying to improve the theme by replacing dark against dark text with proper contrasted texts, buttons, links, and so on.

I slightly widened the gap between quoted posts and content underneath, added margins to the signature, and increased the text size of signatures. I fixed the breadcrumb navigation so that all of the little numbers aren't black on dark blue, and I fixed most of the highlighting issues, though certainly not all.

I hope you enjoy the changes.

Indeed there was, much to my surprise, too.
I also updated the WF logo because charcoal grey with black outline on dark blue background was kind of awful. I made it more of a sky blue.

Are these changes why the Edit/Delete/IP/Report controls now look like Fisher Price buttons?

Yes. I am going to adjust those, by the way, they came out not quite the way I wanted. I didn't want to use images, like we use for Odelay 2.1, because it increases loading time, and one of the best things about Ashlands, Grazelands, Plainsman, and others is that they load fast as greased lightning, and are lighter on resources than Odelay 2.1.

I'm going to keep tweaking them, and if I can't get them to look better than they are, I'll create some nice buttons using images.

Edit: There we go, something more subtle.

It was supposed to be very quick, and just a simple update, but once I got in there, I realized a bunch of stuff was just not displaying properly at all.

    i don't think I like the report button... it's a visual distraction

especially when there're three of'em on a page.

are there really so many reported posts that its presence warrants being the same size as reply?

(I'm using grazelands, if that helps)

also, why are the upload and more options buttons so... vivid?

Unfortunately, the template itself ties in all of those together, so even though I'd like Reply to have a bigger button, and the others to be smaller, when I adjust one it adjusts them all. I might be able to adjust that manually.

Edit: I've fixed the weird upload button colors. I adjusted the reply/delete/edit/like buttons to be noticeable, but a bit smaller.

I just checked out that theme, and man, I thought that this Plainsman was hideous.

Turns out, it can't hold a candle to that theme. :vomit:

I've liked Ashlands ever since we started using this software, but the new buttons at the bottom look clunky in it.

I can always remove them, or change it to a lighter grey. My idea was just to highlight them so they're easier to use. If you folks actually find the original text format preferable, it's easy enough for me to revert.

I personally don't need the surrounds to see the buttons, but if other people do I guess I can live with the look.

It doesn't have to stay, I'll even make a poll. Like I said, it's easily reverted. My goal is to make it comfortable and easy to use for everyone. The only reason I noticed it was because while I was working on Plainsmen, I noticed almost all of the themes were missing buttons and only had tiny text links.

While you're fucking around in Plainsman, is there anything that can be done about the post preview text in the search window? Currently looks like this:

    searchtext.jpg
If I'm sitting at the computer, there's enough contrast between dark blue/black that I can read it fine, but if I'm using the computer from bed, it's difficult to read.

Yes, I keep a wireless mini keyboard next to my bed so I don't have to get up to use the computer. Don't judge me.

For Grazelands, I removed the button, made the text size 12 font, and made it bold. Let me know what you think.

lol-but now there's no button for "reply".

Still, much better without it on my desktop screen. I think part of it is that a reply button sits above the smilies and doesn't really align vertically with the body of a post, so isn't really a distraction when reading left to right.

I hadn’t checked on a mobile but the surrounds really looks bad.

    IMG_4534.jpeg
The words used to all line up on mobile as well as desktop. Now it looks even more like Fisher Price.
Lose the surrounds so the words fit closer together like they used to.

For Plainsman, wasn't the text in posts gold before? I much preferred that to white. Unless I'm misremembering. Everything feels really bright now. I always liked the Plainsman theme as a "darker" theme, and because it was similar to the old TrekBBS theme. Though yeah, there were some issues with black font on dark blue that I'm glad you fixed.

Some of the text was, yes. It should now be gold again. At the time, I was just trying to amp up the readability.

    You're welcome.

I like the Plainsmen theme, and switched to it not long ago, which is when I discovered that quite a bit of it had been unfinished. I figured "well, you have the access to fix it, so fix it," and I hope I have. I can't do as much as I want, really, but that's a limitation more related to how the software's style system works, and how little I like getting mired down in code that might have to be torn out later if we upgrade.
