I'll never forgive the Germans for their biggest 20th Century crime against humanity: keeping Hasselhoff's career alive. Dear God, he is just so, so, so awful. You can't get that much cheese in a truckload of cheddar.
Phelps clan threatens to picket Williams funeral, comic makes a brilliant counterproposal. (More at the link.)
Just found Robin Williams' 1978 performance at the Roxy. By far my favorite performance of his: If that video doesn't solidify, in your mind, a place for Robin Williams as one of the greatest comedians of all time, you probably cashed out on enjoying life a looooong time ago.
To piggy back on my last post: this part in the video is pretty poignant, in light of his suicide: 36 minutes in, watch until the 40 minute mark. EDIT: the YouTube linking on the board software isn't jumping the video to the right point. Watch the video above and jump to about 36 mins, 30 secs.
Interesting fact: Robin Williams was actually offered and accepted the role of the Joker in the original 1989 Tim Burton Batman film. However, he was given it as a negotiating tactic to get Jack Nicholson on board. When Nicholson agreed, Williams was released from the film. He was so pissed off with Jon Peters and Warner Brothers that he refused to participate in any of the studio's films.
Mrs. Doubtfire was one of the first non cartoon movie I saw in theatre when I was seven. It was a good blend of Williams' s high energy and moving tenderness. Glad to see you around, hope to see you posting more.
While originally going to play Berlinghoff Rasmussen in TNG, Robin Williams would've also been good as a (member of the) Q (Continuum)! IIRC, there was talk of Rasmussen being on ENT, & I wonder IF Williams would've FINALLY played him, had that happened?
And his final movie with Simon Pegg, and the Monty Pythons isn't getting an American theatrical release, and looks to be going straight to VOD.
I can't believe Robin Williams is dead a year today. Shame he never got to play Berlinghoff Rasmussen, whether on DS9, V'GER, &/or even on ENT!
Quite often gifted people are doomed to a fucked up personal life and an early grave. I guess I'm in the clear then!
