And, for what seems like the 100th time, might the lack of outrage -- just possibly -- have something to do with the fact that the perpetrators were actually arrested?
When it is said, it's generally by somebody in sociology circles who doesn't realize that the general public doesn't understand the semantic distinctions that social scientists make between racism and racial prejudice (where, for the sake of the convenience that comes from having two different words for two different ideas, racism is commonly defined as prejudice backed by the power to do harm).
However, the kid that got jumped is backed by a system that will arrest a black man if he does something wrong -- or sometimes even if he doesn't. Which, again, is the key distinction between this -- and every other "see, look, a black person attacked someone! Condemn him, Al Sharpton, condemn him!" incident that's been posted here in recent weeks -- and the Trayvon Martin case. Something that, no matter how often it's pointed out, some people conveniently keep ignoring.
You may be not to far off remember it wasn't that long ago Sharpton and other Black leaders were defending those other 6 Black Kids who attacked a White kid...everyone remembers the Jena 6 right?...that was the big Sharton lead cause at the time only then everyone was trying to make excuses for the accused and protesting to let them off for their crime.
Really? you need a link about the Jena 6..I know your a little old Garamet but not that old that you can't remember the Jena 6 story from only a few years ago.
Are we going to do this every time someone commits a crime now? Do we need a new Forum? The Faux Racist Outrage Room?
Since you seem to follow Sharpton's activities in such close detail, I'd expect you to have it bookmarked. No?
Now the question becomes, should we go into all of the reasons why the Jena Six case was far more complicated than just "Al Sharpton defending some black kids' sovereign right to beat up white kids," or just make fun of mlong for being too stupid to know the difference between six and seven?
OK since Garamet is suffering from early onset Alzheimer's here's a link to the Jena 6 story.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jena_Six
Yeah, but that's, y'know, that's just racial justice for 6 black kids to beat a white kid so bad he ends up in the E.R., or for 7 to do the same to an Hispanic kid. Because, y'know, that white kid owned hundreds of thousands of slaves and was the top enforcer of Jim Crow, and the Hispanic kid, ohhh, man, he was the one who brought the slaves to the U.S. Alternately, it's always possible that a culture dedicated to racial victimhood and entitlement has spawned a rash of kids who think that they can do no wrong and are owed everything.
Says the guy who can't tell six from seven. And now you'll explain to the class how this is exactly the same as the case in the OP, right?
