People of Wordforge, I am sick of razor burn on my neck. I get it when I use my Norelco electric razor and a regular blade (Gillette Fusion). I get it worse with the blade though. Help would be nice! Thanks!
Buy one of those mirrors with the suction cups on the back and stick it in your shower. Shave after you shower, when the pores on your face have opened up from the hot water. They usually have a holder or shelf for your shaving cream and razor. Also, save shaving against the grain for when you really need a squeaky smooth look, such as funerals and :cunni:. Personally, unless you have one of those two hundred dollar wet ones, I find that the metal grating on electric shavers roughs up my face something awful.
Aftershave? L'Oreal makes some balm that comes in a silver and orange container that seems to work well (although I've recently switched back to good ol' Old Spice for reasons not entirely clear to me). They also make some kind of pre-shave stuff, but I'm not sure if that's useful or just a gimmick.
Buy Aloe Vera cream and apply it after you shave. That coupled with not shaving against the grain unless I absolutely have too has made my razor burn go away completely.
Just keep shaving until your hide gets all tough and leathery. Forget about the blemishes and whatnot. They won't kill ya. And I don't care what anybody says, if you don't go against the grain you're not shaving as close as you could be.
I tried going against the grain 2 days ago. It seems to have worked better. I still need more practice too. I missed a spot and some areas were still scratchy. I really suck at shaving around my Adams Apple. That is hard!!
Stop using electric and buy a Mach3 but remember each blade is only good for around 6 shaves and then it dulls so you need to get rid of it. First shower with hot water to make your skin softer, next put a bit of baby oil on your face to help make sure the razor goes smoothly over your skin and to help prevent ingrown hairs, after that use a good foam (I like the type which comes in a bottle and you lather with a brush but an anti-razor burn gel also works), shave first down to get most of the hair then up to get the last bits (make sure you put more foam on each time), after that wash your face with soap and cold water as that helps to close pores, lastly use a good after shave to disinfect any cuts or abrasions plus it will help seal your skin and prevent bacteria from getting into any wounds and make them turn red. Yes, it's a pain and a bit metrosexual but you won't get any razor bumps or burns and you'll get a really close shave. I use this stuff: http://www.theartofshaving.com/taos6/product.php?product=98009&group=1&trk=family
Not so fast. I've been doing this ever since Clyde posted it a few months ago. I've been using the same Gillette fusion cartridge since May and it still gives a great shave. It's the same principle behind a barber stropping a straight razor before giving you a shave.
BTW, still using the same Fusion cartridge nearly a year after reading Clyde's advice. Probably taking it a bit far, but I still get a close shave from it.
I'm on the same cartridge after about ten months and that's from shaving my face and head. Works like a champ. People that buy replacement cartridges outside of pure breakages are suckers.
I hear you! BTW are you light-skinned with dark hair? That is THE WORST combination - it always looks like you need a shave! But yes, the area right under my jawbones gets TORN UP to the point where I look like I have an epic hickey on both sides. I wish I knew how to stop this too. I think next time I shave I'm going to get these areas first, while the blade is sharpest and my hand is the the steadiest. It's like weapons qualification! Assuming different sized targets (simulating differing distances) are on the same big target sheet, shoot the farthest (hardest) targets first before you ge tired and tour gun starts shaking.
I basically dry-shave all the time, every 2-3 days. Minimal irritation on the neck under the chin, but generally nothing to worry about. 10 minutes later its fine. Of course, I'm not one of those apes with Mediterranian blood who grows hair quickly and all over....
I just use an electric trimmer. Trim it once a week and I'm good to go. Fuck work policy of being clean shaven. I'm too damn lazy. If they want they can fire me and hire some other consultant to do all their work for them.
I just shave in the shower, have for decades. I don't need a mirror either, I do it by feel. Slick as a baby's bum every time. I rarely change blades, maybe twice a year. Electric razors are just too harsh on my mug.
Difference between an electric razor and electric trimmer. This is what I use. Doesn't do the 'close' shave, but it trims it down pretty good. Still got stubble though, which I don't mind.
For those of you who are following Clyde's advice, how many times are you passing the razor over the palm of your hand?
I finally quit using the one cartridge about a month ago. I'm not sure if the blades got damaged or what, but it quit taking any kind of decent edge and was causing a lot of skin irritation when I used it. Since it was cheaper to buy a new razor than to buy a pack of replacement Fusion cartridges, I bought a new local grocery chain Fusion knock-off. We'll see how long it goes. That last Fusion cartridge lasted about two and a half years.
I hated Fushion. I went back to Mach 3 Turbo. Wet shave when I shave everyday. Beard trimmer/stubble when I can't be arsed.
Honestly I tried that technique and it just didnt work out for me. Maybe my skin is too sensitive or I'm just doing it wrong?
I went to an old school double-edged razor a couple of months ago. Once I got the technique down, it was smooth sailing.
