I may have said this before, but I have developed a constant ringing in my left ear (sometimes my right, but rarely). Anyway, today I noticed that the ringing changes pitch every few hours or so. Not a lot, maybe half an octave or so. Will I have this for the rest of my life? I don't do anything to make my hearing worse anymore (I constantly wear hearing protection now) but I guess the damage is done. Anyone have any expertise in this area?
My chemistry teacher (of all the random people on earth) says he's got a permanent ringing in his ear. He used to listen to loud sounds back when he was younger. Something about loud farm equipment. He's old now, maybe around 60 (?) and he told us he'll always hear the ringing. You could go to an ear doctor and check that.
I had that for about 2 weeks in Dec. Drove me nuts and then it stopped. It could be a lot of things including an ear infection or fluid in your ear. Or it could be Tinnitus. Check out this site: Annoying Ear Stuff
Probably early tinnitus..I've had it for years since the service...loud explosions. The only time I even notice is when it's quiet...doesn't bother me, but Shatner has it and he let drive him nuts.
I've got it really mildly - not ringing, it just sounds like someone using an old modem in the next room. Doesn't bother me, but the doctor said that if it gets worse, she can arrange for me to get a white noise generator that masks it. Might be worth having a word with your doc.
White noise generators Not had reason to find out yet if they work or not, but as I said, they're what my doctor recommends...
"But blood makes noise It's a ringing in my ear Blood makes noise And I can't really hear you In the thickening of fear"
