Superman's a different case. The physical requirements for the role (square jaw, 6'2" or taller, athletic, muscular, etc.) are so particular that casting an unknown is almost inevitable. So Peter Dinklage is off the table for the next Superman? The terrorists have won.
^ He could play Nick Nack in a remake of "The Man With the Golden Gun", and Tattoo if they remake "Fantasy Island again Regardless of the quality of this nuRobocop, it's YET another remake, reboot, reimagining, redo, etc et al, blah, blah, blah, from idea depleted Hollywood The original Robocop had some then past, & then future, Trek performers in it. Miguel Ferrer from STIII:TSFS. Captain Jellico from TNG's "Chain of Command", and the title character of course, Admiral Marcus!
How could you forget Kurtwood Smith? Who played the Federation president in "The Undiscovered Country" as well as guest roles on both Deep Space Nine and Voyager.?
I thought ED-209 always looked like one of the little flying alien robots from *Batteries Not Included.
Looking in at RottenTomatoes, the only two top critics that have weighed in--The Hollywood Reporter and Variety--have both given it nominally positive reviews. From The Hollywood Reporter: From Variety:
Yes, him too! UFP Prez, Annorax the Timeline Tyrant, and Thrax on DS9! Remember Odo saying to Thrax: "There's MORE to life than the Rule of Law!"
A podcast (TOFOP) that I listen to made the point a few weeks ago that Peter Dinklage would make an amazing Batman. Lil Bats.
Well, this sounds exactly like what I feared. Gritty human drama like pretty much everything these days with SLJ the sole satirical element. Geez I even rewatched TOTAL RECALL lately to get some bearings why it's wrong to remake Verhoeven movies and boy was I right. It's as soulless as I remember and completely lacks the bloody spectacle of the original. Instead we get the usual sanitezed CGI and even robots instead of human baddies just so they can keep their beloved PG13. PG13. Actually, we don't need to say more about these films. This kills everything that made the originals so good. But then I haven't seen it yet so judgment is kinda hard. I could go to the theater and fear for the worst all the way there so there can be no disappointment
Running 67% with audiences and 21/35 top critics have given it positive reviews at RottenTomatoes. Most of the reviews I've read have been fairly uniform: not as sharply satirical as the Verhoeven film, but with some substance about drones/militarized police, and a surprisingly good actioner.
Holy shit. "Robocop" is a dog. Totally didn't see that coming after what a huge success Total Recall (and all the other 80s remakes that were so shitty I can't even remember them) was. "Volpone was right."
