Blomkamp left. It's probably dead. https://www.comicbookmovie.com/sci-...-he-is-no-longer-directing-the-sequel-a170005
Well, I did like the second robocop. I could see problems with using a drug addicted criminal for the brain of your more powerful robocop, but the company was so corrupt and backstabbing it was not that out of the real of possibility. The attenmpt to reprogram robocop seemed like something a PR person would do. Miring down robocop with a bunch of conflicting rules was an interesting idea. The ending was full of action and the bad guy was terrifying. I also did like how the police did back robocop as a hero. They did play the police as an underdog good guy in the movie. Of course, it has been a while since I have seen it so it may be worse with time.
I think both the original RoboCop and the 2014? remake were both fairly good satirical portraits of corporate and media culture of their times. RoboCop 2 was one of the rare examples of a sequel keeping up with the original. I read somewhere the focus group reprogramming of Robo was mirroring some of the real life corporate goings on, because somehow the hard R cyberpunk dystopian transhuman gorefest that was the original was a big hit with kids, which had the suits screwing with the film makers. One viewing of RoboCop 3 will tell you which of the two ultimately got their way, and we can all see how that turned out.
Frank Miller wrote the first drafts of 2 & 3, and the studio interference filled his belly with a seething ball of hate that he turned into the first Sin City book. So, hey, lemons, lemonade!
