is why I've had him blocked for a couple of years now (at least)
Here’s a statement I agree with on this subject. Justin Amash.
I call BS.
Every single dead person is a potential source of organ and tissue and blood transplants, but doctors aren't allowed to use any of it without the express consent of the deceased and their next of kin.
Every single person with type O blood is walking around full of a rare resource that's vital to saving people's lives, that they could easily provide with minimal inconvenience to themselves, but doctors aren't allowed to take it from them without their express consent.
A doctor that doesn't feel like working on a particular day can't be forced to work, no matter how many lives might be saved if they pick up an extra shift in the ER.
A pregnant woman deserves just as much freedom to not help another living thing as a dead person or a type O blood carrier or a doctor that wants to go fishing.
I’m not sure what you’re talking about, perhaps I provided the wrong link?
It's the first sentence at the link that I'm taking issue with.
Some doctors are refusing to provide an abortion even when the mother’s life is in jeopardy because they are worried about prosecution.
(this was a WANTED pregnancy that turned out to threaten her life)

Doctors should be ashamed. They should be leading this fight and holding to they hypocritical oath.
Fucking Paladin and everyone who thinks like him.
The hypocritical oath is when cops swear to Protect and Serve.
if the moral is universal enfranchisement, then objectively speaking, yes.
Fat fingers and autocorrect.
But, thanks for the correction.
The GOP - you can be too immature to decide you want an abortion, but not too immature to be forced to become a mother.
A pregnant woman in Louisiana says she’s being forced to choose between carrying a fetus that lacks a skull and the top of its head (as a result of a rare condition called acrania) to term, or traveling several states over for a legal abortion, since Louisiana has banned abortion with very narrow exceptions.
“It’s hard knowing that I’m carrying it to bury it,” Nancy Davis, who’s 13 weeks pregnant and is already the mother of one child, told local news station WAFB9 on Monday. A few weeks ago, she had her first ultrasound and was told the fetus wouldn’t survive—but that she would have to either carry and birth the nonviable fetus or travel to Florida, the closest state where abortion is still legal.

Republican law maker is shocked to discover that women might die because of the anti-abortion law he voted for.
Hey at least he's shocked, and not like the resident WF fundie fuckwits who think that's a price worth paying.
Or the ones for whom it's a feature, not a bug.
Is that the sound of a conscience gnawing at him, or the sound of his stomach dropping as he realizes that's a whole extended family who'll never vote Republican again?
Too fucking bad he didn't listen to doctors or scientists before signing the bill. Glad he didn't sleep at all. Hope he never sleeps again.
it's kind of amazing how a democrat can say things like "healthcare and education are human rights" and a republican can say "5th graders should be forced to have babies and we should overturn election results we don't like" and some people are like "these are both extremists"
To kludge a half-remembered tweet:
The far right in this country is a gun-toting violent mob that wants 10-year-old rape victims to be forced to give birth, tries to overturn democratic elections by force, and thinks their enemies drink the blood of babies.
The far left is an old guy from Vermont who thinks everyone should have health care.
No, the far left just awards itself special permission to excuse or disown any member caught doing bad things. Not that they are unique in that behavior, but let's cut the shit, here.
Among the actual politicians that are acceptable in the party, yes. And agreed, that's a monumental difference. Even the Squad and Bernie are responsible people that may disagree on policy but have signed on to get things done for people when they can.
The far left among the actual population includes anarchists and communists, and many of them are just as itching for a civil war for the system to come down as the far right. What amazes me is they think they can win. Taking the label liberal is becoming less popular with moderates over the last few years largely because of their aggressive behavior.
And they absolutely want to overthrow the center left in the Democratic party, which is why Biden's popularity rating is still at Trumpian levels despite the masterclass he's given on effective governorship. They see this as the only path forward with political legitimacy, and they are correct. But they are like the tea party in this respect - if they want to gain the levers of power they have to constantly criticize the center left, even in a condition when the center left is the only effective bulwark at this time against fascism.
But then, see the previous point. A small but vocal group want that civil war that fascism would bring.
The occasional dayton kitchens of the left is not the same as having a large number of those people throughout your entire party, pandering to them, and even going so far as putting them up as president. I get there are some fucking assholes on the left on twitter. I get that there are awful conmen on the extreme left. I am a member of the furry and therianthrope community from way back and there are some evil scammers out there. It is like comparing scientology to organized christianity. OMG is the Church of scientology awful and corrupt, but it is not the fucking catholic and protestant christian nightmare. Scientology has killed a few fucking people. Christianity has done genocides.
To give you an idea I know a person who claimed they were a psychic vampire who had extracted a psionic ball of snot from their head and captured it in between two speaker magnets and it could give you magic powers. They were selling potions that could turn you into a vampire and a wereworlf for thousands of dollars. People were fucking buying it. I fought with these idiots. It is nothing like the pervasive fraud of christianity.
Yes, there are some fucked up people on the left, and I call them out with no reservation. However, they do not wield the power of the christian fascist right in america. There may be some black panthers who hate white people, but they do not interrupt white power like white people opress blacks through american history up until today. I really don't care that whitey McFluffy got fired from his job for saying the N word. That is nothing like never being hired because you are the wrong color.
Or, to put it another way: The left's are on Twitter. The right's are in Congress.
People act human. Regardless of political party. You appear to be making a statement that says "Republicans have made 'these' laws. and your counter argument is "Democrats are human".
Disowning people who do fucked things seems far better than embracing them.
Better still to publicly condemn them in unambiguous terms and pursue them with the full force of the law, than to give a half-hearted scolding with fingers crossed behind your back, punctuated with any variation of "....but I understand *wink wink nudge nudge* "
(No, I am not claiming any of that is a verbatim court transcript or somesuch to be cited, so don't fucking start with me. )
And that goes for everyone nobody gets a pass, and nobody is held to a stricter standard based on whether or not you personally sympathize with their super important feelings. Either violence and destruction are off the fucking table, or they're not. Don't come crying when you open that door and go home with a bloody nose.
The distinction is that the radical reactionaries on the right literally control the GOP - ask any ridiculously nutso question you want in a poll and, like, 72% of their voters think you literally can reinstate Trump by fiat THIS year. The crazies have taken over the asylum.
On the left, the radical reactionaries can't elect a single politician to any office at any level who shares their positions and goals. I'd be shocked if they made up even 10% of what we think of as left-of center voters
