    Wow.... fear.

Why would any nation enter a treaty with the U.S. knowing that the U.S. could disregard it whenever it felt like? It wouldn't mean anything at that point, it wouldn't make a difference if they entered it or not. But then again, your view of the world is that of a stupid simpleton.

It might be to their advantage.

That's just stupid. Even if it were to their advantage, they would be suspicious of the treaty because they know the US can cheat or do whatever whenever it's convenient.

Everyone might well laugh at this, myself included, but that is the one and only stance from which the foreign policy of the United States under Bush-2 and according to Trump's promises makes sense.

Wow. This is beyond stupid. The US does not have the military power to act against more than a handful of nations. So what then?

Remember, he fantasizes about the day when the US has the ability and desire to destroy other countries at will without any risk to our side. Never mind that it's a recipe for tyranny.

This was actually an argument a German EU official had against the U.S. building an ABM system in the late 1990s.

He said if the U.S had a working ABM system they could basically say the hell with rest of the world and do what they wanted.

Which is why I thought it farcical the other day when he was insisting he had no aspirations to be a dictator.

What have you got against dictators, "lawyer"?

IIRC your own queen is basically one.

We've reached the point where you have to ask what's bad about a dictator already? And Trump isn't even sworn in yet.

And the Queen is as much of a dictator as the Senate is filled with seniors.

In general I think the U.S. should honor its treaty obligations ... BUT all nations are not equal.

So for instance, the reason we object to a lot of other countries having nukes when we have them ourselves is that, simply put, we are far more trustworthy than they are.
