Just done the training to process COVID lateral flow tests for our students when they return next week. Fuck me the PPE is oppressive. My nose has only just about returned to the right colour after an hour.
Long, technical, but still understandable to the general public, article about the process of developing the vaccine. Not mentioned in the article (I can't find the one where it was mentioned), but basically, because of the ability to sequence DNA/RNA and synthesize them, the vaccine was basically first made a year ago, and the reason it took so long to get released was due to the testing!
It should be, given my alcohol abuse, but it's normally a bit lighter than that due to my Irish ancestry and vampirism. After an hour in the PPE, it looked like a cooked lobster that had been viciously whipped by a high class dominatrix.
My nurse neighbor got the shot. Our friend Talkahueno got her second shot. TKO says she got flu-like body aches as a side effect which lasted about a day. My nurse neighbor got a 104°F temp as a side effect.
I never have had a reaction to flu shots, but the shingles shot made me feel like shit for a day or two. I hope the corona vaccine won't be any worse than that.
Haven't had one of those since the operation almost three years ago. You should be grateful: there's a lot more left for you than there would have been...
I get a flu shot every year. Apparently it takes about a week to be - 95% - effective. One year I either didn't get it fast enough or it didn't take, but I got slammed. I would not want to relive those four days of aches and fever and coughing for anything. COVID sounds like flu on steroids. Gimme the shots, please!
I got the first dose. Wicked sore arm for a couple days and a slight headache the first night. No fever or anything.
It's amusing in a sick *ahem* way that so many Trumpistas dismiss Covid 19 as "just the flu". The flu is a serious disease and dismissing it as a minor inconvenience is just another fucking lie.
My mom tested positive... My last 6-feet-contact with my parents was sunday evening when i had to "fix" the tv(pressed the wrong button on the remote)... Was there barely 5 minutes and i still feel fine after 5 days... Earlier that same day one of my aunts visited my mom, she said she was not feeling well, she also tested positive for covid-19 and is sicker than my mom... My parents have to quarantine now until the 25th, unfortunately my mom has to take care of my dad who has dementia and diabetes and a bunch of other physical problems... My brother is trying to get extra help, maybe speed up the process of placing my dad into a care home... Bit of a shitty situation...
Sounds like my experience with the polio shot. Granted, I was 4. Still, I was miserable and cried most of the night. Not looking forward to reliving that.
hope it all works out. BTW maybe things are different for you but here in New York state (for example) having them in a nursing home might not be the healthiest choice. Just sayin'
I'm about your age but I don't remember getting the polio shot. Most likely in my case I don't remember it because it wasn't a very painful one. For me part #5 of the anthrax shot series was very memorable. It was right near my "funny bone" but I sure wasn't laughing.
What a terrible article that is. There's an entire graphic comparing the two vaccines and no mention of whether the Pfizer version also uses commas correctly.
I suppose it depends on what age you were when you got it. I got mine just before I started school, so I was 5 years old. I remember there was also a rainstorm that night.
I got the drops and remember the taste being very distinct. The smallpox shots I got in basic training were a bitch.
So, my brother in law had air tools and a big air compressor. It was very loud and just listening to the power in the tools .... Anyway, got to basic training and they're telling us the shots will be given by an air gun. I freaked out. remembering the polio shot combined with the memory of BIL's air tools ... I nearly quit, then.
hmmm.....if lighting had hit your house right when the polio vaccine caused an unexpected side effect - it would be the start of a superhero movie!
