This is a Russian website, it's in Russian, so you'll have to translate it, but this particular region of Russia is being hit hard by "pneumonia." I put pneumonia quotes because if you poke around and read the other articles on the site, you'll quickly find out that it's an "unknown" respiratory illness. That sounds awfully familiar. Is it a resurgence of COVID? Is it a new disease? I don't know. Everyone gets sick: a dangerous virus is spreading across Russia, causing latent pneumonia
Could well be - BBC reporting this today: Seems to be spreading fast but the current vaccines are keeping the severity of infection down to non-clinical levels in the majority of cases. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-67772390
I got my latest booster at the end of September. I got COVID in 2022 and I got a moderate hit, even with a booster in my system.
Lots of people around here getting COVID, calling it the "flu," while they experience very much not solely flu symptoms. I'm still masking, and I get the weirdest looks from people who will laugh about my masking, while they also cough up a fucking lung.
I seem to recall that pneumonia after someone got the Spanish Flu was particularly deadly. I have read books on the topic and seen some common threads.
Somehow that doesn’t surprise me. While my vocal cords weren’t paralyzed, I did lose my voice for 80 days…
I'm not a doctor and I don't play one on TV, but my guess would be that w so many immune systems being compromised by COVID, it makes it easier to catch these other illnesses too. Many people with HIV/AIDS often died from unusual cases of pneumonia or absurdly rare cancers in the early days. COVID has a 8llness destroys T-cells in a way similar to HIV. Make of that what you will
The real question is whether the combination of Covid and resulting vulnerabilities will kill off the idiot anti-vaxxers faster than they can breed.
The more infections people get, the more damaged the immune system, some of it so long term they're not entirely certain it recovers. There has also been a notable reduction of white matter in the brain where after two years there is a general recovery of that white matter, but with substantial inflammation that can persist after it. White matter is the substance in your brain that deals with the neurotransmitters that exchange information. As a result of the immune system being damaged, it exposes us to diseases that were once easily manageable by those systems. As these viruses spread into what was once robust immune systems, they interact with other viruses, creating adaptations that scientists have been fighting to address as quickly as possible. For example, doctors have been watching as COVID intensifies chronic illnesses such as diabetes, increasing resistance to insulin, among other factors, by up to 40%. We do know that COVID is still impacting millions, that it's intensifying, as indicated in wastewater analyses across the country, and yet you'd think all is well by the way people are behaving. It's going to fuck us over really bad, especially the children, and it's going to damage the future of our species if we don't pull our collective heads out of our asses and address it. This policy of pretending it's just the flu, just a cold, just a little seasonal congestion while in reality it's COVID, COVID, and more COVID, is a failure of society. It's not over, it hasn't been over, and it's not going to be over for a long time at this rate.
I got boosted just before New Year's and three days later I caught the dreaded 'VID. So now I'm suffering from both the post-vaccine shakes and the fucking effects of COVID, which for me is like a nasty cold/fever that just won't go away. I guess, on the plus side, between the vaccine and catching the damn virus, my doctor says that my immunity for the next six months will qualify me to be a superhero in the MCU.
just had a mild case. felt like shit for a week and a half, really shitty for about three days (sweats/fever). more important than super powers, it qualified me for paid time off that didn't count against sick or vacation time
“Inadequate response” seems to mean “I didn’t hear what I wanted to hear.” I’ve been dealing with the aftermath of COVID for quite some time, and that’s with boosters in my system. I had an unknown, underlying symptom and if I’d faced the disease with no protection, I might not be here (asthma, in case you’re wondering). This surgeon general is breaking his Hippocratic Oath…
Cough.... https://www.aamc.org/news/solemn-tr...all U.S. medical, and growing — range of oaths. Given there's currently a legal case working up to the Supreme Court (since the 5th Circuit backed Texas) saying doctors are not obliged to perform lifesaving abortions where the mother is at risk, the law doesn't seem to view the Hippocratic Oath as an issue (and indeed, it has never been legally binding).
