Let me translate: "I just reserved some 33 or so documentaries (from the History Channel, among other sources) to be checked out at the local public library."
There are quite a few more...but I mixed it up a bit...I estimate several thousand available from various sources. Most are on DVD but I requested VHS.
My TV actually has the History Channel on it. I don't have to go anywhere, just sit there and watch it.
Not really, got something like 900 channels and 20 histroy channels and i don't have to go out to get it and it's only 30 odd a month.
Not counting the TV tax? Why should you not count that? It's a real expense associated with watching TV in the UK, no less than my cable bill is a real expense.
Because you only pay for it once a year. Still have to pay it even if you only watch dvd's on the tv.
I get mine through the public library...those I don't buy outright. I can keep them for three weeks. Free. These I ordered are documentaries, mostly from the History Channel...in stores, they're a bit pricey.
And how much is this tax? Frequency does not negate cost. And the 900 channels you get, does that come over the airwaves, paid only by the tax, or do you also have a cable or satellite bill?
So i pay £135 once a year (goes up every year) and about £35 per month for my Sky Digital (satellite) for the £135 to get the radio, the 5 main channels and 35 "free tv channels" if you have a digital settop box.
Okay, I missed your 30 odd a month statement. So you pay about what we pay, but Techman is able to get what he wants for free. More power to him, I'd say.
I guess, I'm not going to a library "hoping" that they have what I'd want in stock. Sorry, cable TV for the basic 90-channels is $29 a month. More than worth it for most people. I actually get mine for free, with Digital and HD-channels, as it was included with my cable modem.
We don't get History Channel. But my oldest son still gets up at 6 AM and watches Discovery Times Channel and the Science Channel. Good boy.
The last time I went to the library (which was a couple of years ago) we had to pay to borrow videos/dvds, so sadly Brits would probably be no better off doing this then getting cable/sky, if they wanted to borrow a number of items.
