God, I don't care if Universal fucking quadruple-dips me on this, I just want more of that beautiful 'verse.

    From Whedonesque and Joss himself:

Bold is mine, mostly for a good bit of  at the naysayers.

    I am a happy camper.

Multiple edits because I'm both fucking ecstatic and very tired.

I must be a bad fan. I've already bought this once, and I'm not fucking buying it again. Fuck you, Joss Whedon. Make a new movie if you want me to buy it.

Well, I don't feel guilty about not buying it now.
By the time I get around to it, it'll be the quadruple dipped edition, and I'll be all set.

I have the bare movie sitting on a DVD-R.

Hey, it's what Mal or Jane would have done.

What were the sales figures of the first DVD release?

Edit: oh, just enough so that the theater release wasn't a complete loss.

In general, I agree with the sentiment, but on rare occasions when I think the quality of the work justifies a bit of prostelatizing, I'll buy more than one copy and donate one to the local or school library.

I've already picked up a couple of extra copies of Serenity used (like at Game Stop when there's a "buy one get one" sale or something) and given them away as gifts or donated them.

I might do so with my current copy if the new one impresses me.

Particularly since it's an opportunity to :poke: at those who presist in deriding Serenity's profitability for shits and giggles.

If Universal will get on the Blu-Ray bus with this title, I could get really excited about this news.

    It was released on HD-DVD.

Edit: oh you meant the special edition. But if the first edition was released on HD-DVD, don't expect the special edition to be released on Blu-Ray.

No, Universal wants to try and make a profit off of a dead franchise.

More to the point, I think they see they made the same blunder Paramount did with the Trek series and is trying to regroup.

I don't disagree with your sentiment necessarily, but to nitpick, that wasn't Paramount that made that mistake - it was NBC. Paramount wasn't involved until they took over Desilu.

Likewise, the mistakes regarding Firefly were made by Fox, not Universal.

The smart thing to do had they realized it would have been for Fox to carry the show on FX rather than cancel it. Edgy shows like "The Sheild" and "Rescue Me" and "Nip/Tuck" find a place to be appreciated by a smaller udience there than on a network but it takes fewer viewers there to be considered a success. I've little doubt it would still be on the air if they had done that.

Not that I need it or will buy it, but the attempt alone pisses me off. I usually buy the 'better' version if two are available, but they'll never get me to buy the same movie twice.

I downloaded it. Deleted it without watching it after the movie premiered and I read some reviews. Then I took the hard drive out of my computer and pissed on it, burnt it, and took a sledge hammer to it.

My computer will never be the same. :borgs:

I wonder if this means that someone will try to revive the franchise as a direct-to-DVD sort of thing.

I wonder if it'll be more fun or more annoying watching the hardcore Browncoats whipping themselves into a frenzy over that possibility.

Is this why Joss released the statement?

No, he's in it for the money as well.

Universal is the one that gets all the money, and then decides how much to give to Joss.
