Is California the best "laboratory" demonstrating the possible consequences of Leftist Rule in the USA?

Very rich, but with the greatest poverty, most homelessness, with needles and human crap in streets, expensive taxes, gas over $4.15/gallon vs national avg. of only $2.65. Oh, and maybe the bubonic friggin plague among a stew of other medieval diseases.

COMING SOON to a neighborhood near you! Rolling blackouts.

Short version: corporate laziness and greed is to blame for PG&E shutting power down because they haven't done proper maintainable around power lies for years.

Gavin Newsom better take note. The last time people's electricity got fucked with in this state cuz of corporate interests, we kicked Grey Davis out of office and put the only Republican governor I can remember in my lifetime in office.

You may resuming jizzing your pants now :)

Unfortunately the city forefathers of Seattle locked us into a socialist municipally controlled power system.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seattle_City_Light

Yeah, having the cheapest and cleanest power in the country and having my elected officials control our own power is nice and all, but where are the profits?

Got into the shower this morning, very lukewarm water. Clearly, power was out and my water heater wasn't running for quite awhile during the night.

My 11th grade English teacher had me grade other students' papers (not in the same class, obviously). After the first few, I told her I didn't want to do it anymore. I couldn't believe how retarded so many of my fellow classmates were. I had better English skills in elementary school! If only garamet was there to show them the way as she did invent the language.

Do you really want to be saying things like that about poor and foreign students when the guy who leads your universe cannot speak english properly or do math? Trump has the best private republican education money can buy and yet he fails all basic skills, and you voted for him knowing this.

No outage here, but I think a couple of TV towers are without power, as I can’t receive ABC or NBC tonight.

It is really only in rural areas and it is a direct response to stupid legal changes by state Democrats last year. They bankrupted PG&E with claims about wild fires which started when winds broke power lines. They then changed state laws so that power companies bore 100% financial liability anytime a tree fell in high winds cause sparks and fire so that power companies started pre-emptively cutting off power any time there are high winds because failing to do so risked bankruptcy for the utility. Now they whine that utilities do literally the only thing they can to avoid bankruptcy.

It is the stupid leading the stupider Dems caused this and now they whine about the logical results of their bad policies. I 100% believe they do not give a shit because rural voters do not vote for them. They do not care if those people are without power for a week or two. Welcome to the noncompetitive state run by Democrats.

So to be clear @Dinner, you disagree that a big contributing factor to the fires was poorly maintained and managed equipment?

I am saying that the polcy of making it 100% the power company's fault is what bankrupted the state's largest power company. Further more I am saying the change in state liability law made it inevitable that preemptive shut offs would happen. If we don't want preemptive shut offs to happen then we have to change the horrible new laws. Fact.

It is an either or situation. Choose wisely.

Also, Portland's main power company is PGE (Portland General Electric), not to be confused with this PG&E outfit.

It's only an either/or if you think the situation was unavoidable. If in fact it resulted from poor management on their part then there are in fact multiple different resolutions possible to the situation.

Maybe cali should stop paying for all the red state's shit to keep on going on and focus on their own problems? I am sure the MAGAts can pull themselves up with their bootstraps while california focuses on it's internal problems for a bit.

Unchecked capitalist greed run amok. Our electricity should be state-run. PG&E already gets all sorts of subsidies and perks for running a monopoly, yet they still are negligent in their operations and maintenance of their lines. If their solution is either let people die in a fire or cut power to half the state, the problem is PG&E. With a state run utility, at least all the corporate welfare is cut out of the equation. It might not run completely smoothly at first, but it will certainly do better than PG&E's baseline of "our greed and negligence causes fires and deaths every year."

On SMUD, so thankfully no disruption. Funny how a government ran utility can manage not to kill people or shut off everyone's power.

The state granted the monopoly, the state granted them extra limited liability, the state took away that limit, and now you want the state to take over the company? Brilliant!

I’m certainly not going to defend the first two actions, but the third one is entirely reasonable, and there’s no reason at all to believe that a state-owned PG&E would have done any better under the same limited and then less-limited liability conditions.

“But those executives’ bonuses were so high!” you say, “Surely they could have put that back into maintenance and the problem would have been solved!” Yeah, no. The executive bonuses were on the order of 25 million over a year. The amount they spent on maintenance over the last 3 months was 1.942 Billion. The bonuses might have been gross and unwarranted, but they were a drop in the bucket compared to the maintenance that wasn’t done.

PG&E has openly admitted their culpability in this. The biggest kicker being that the money they were changing to maintaining power lines (like overgrown tree branches) were instead going into the pockets of the C-level execs who Dinner is sucking off.

If Democrats are being hard on this, it's cuz Grey Davis got bounced over the Enron scandal and no one wants a repeat of that clown car circus of a recall.
