Damn, must be some sort of record. Never knew such humor could be found in the killings in Benghazi.

Guess we shouldn't give a crap.

So is that the extent of your response to the killings in Benghazi?

Parody threads are typically one-off thread title jokes, is "Benghazi" just a funny word? You know like guacamole, cockamamie, and majordomo.

Even so we haven't had seven guacamole parody threads. :bailey:

ETA - Let's guess who will disagree with this post. I almost feel bad, like I'm manipulating responses. Truth is I don't want to pull anyone's strings and I'm not responsible (even if I'm aware) for anybody else's predictability.

    Well... yeah, sort of.

Don't forget 'hulabaloo', 'imbroglio' and 'Titicaca.'

Funny word, but also the topic is silly. The parodies aren't making light of death, they are pointing out the hyppocracy of so much focus on those 4 deaths while ignoring the many thousands.

I don't think that's fair, starting a thread about the one year anniversary of the events in Benghazi is not silly.

It happened. Plenty of controversy still surrounds the attack. I see no need to blow it off.

Some people disrespect those deaths by using them to score political points. I think that's far worse than eight parody threads.

I think Clyde has a valid point.

An occasional parody thread can be funny and fun, but there are times when we get way too many of them.

No wonder we can't attract new posters. Any newbies taking a look at the board have to think we look like a bunch of clowns.

Yep. Parody threads are typically one-off thread title jokes that tend to be funny yet they've rarely any content. Best in moderation.

That said, I've changed my mind in one regard, from another point of view, there is humor to be found in the sheer number of parody threads.

You're both assigning way too much meaning to it. Speaking for myself, I was just having fun with the title. The content of the original thread isn't a factor.

Agree, Forbin. And parody threads have a long and proud history here. They are part of our cultural heritage. Why does Clyde hate Wordforge?

It's September; there's bound to be a school shooting or other tragedy sooner or later and we'll be back to the normal rage and arguments. Might as well enjoy this time we have now.

I'd say it's a response to the Muad Dib Drama. As if he could have found Benghazi on a map this time last year.

Yeah, it'd be like someone using deaths in a mass shooting to try to argue guns should be banned or something. :soma:

Yeah, have to agree with Clyde, literally half the fucking threads on the front page are parodies. It's a bit overkill. :clyde:
