I set it for a month, that might be too long, but I had to put something in. Input is welcome.

Let me go on the record to say I'm not kosher with the idea of banning over this at all. As I said in the Red Room, we've had one fairly recent incident that was similar to this where nothing happened and which most likely did appear on the Twitter feed.

If lifting the ban won't be considered, a week is more than enough.

The Chup incident was under prior ownership actually. People are fee to disagree, but he used a non red room part of Wordforge to troll, something clearly against the rules. Had Sokar or others done the same, then the analogy would be a better fit.

I concur with Anna, to my knowledge no actual personal information was released. I saw it more as harmless abuse of infrastructure. Not a hill I'm gonna die on however.

Okay, I'll switch it to a week, sounds good.

More than anything, this incident shows why Muad probably flipped shit when he thought Anc was gonna sync up WF to twitter and Facebook.

This also brings up another issue that someone (maybe El Chup) brought up during the Castle incident: maybe he should look at a banning system like the one TBBS has, or at least have a three strikes law, ie first ban in a year = 1 week, second ban = 1 month, 3rd = 3 months or something. With the small group, we shouldn't have to use it often. I'm not sure how the "email to be let back in" started, and many of the ones that do (Tasvir and Polarslam from waaaaaaay back, to name a couple) end up showing their asses again anyway. At least this way takes less effort.

In general, Wordforge seems to police itself rather well. We all know one another, and we're pretty quick at weeding out the assholes and time wasters. I figured we had a progressive banning system, where repeated one day/one week/one month bans eventually lead to a "GTFO forever" ban. Starscape had a similar setup, and it seemed to work really well. Then again, like WF, the community policed itself for the most part.

Used to be three full warnings or one really egregious act earned a two-week ban. Now it seems more like "we don't like you so you're banned."

See, this is whst we shouldn't want. All of us on staff has been on the receiving end of moderator bias, both here and TBBS and I remember gul being banned in the Great Shitstorm of '07 because some thought he was leaking or working with the guy leaking stuff from the Shelter. It was hilarious seeing him get lumped as a shit stirring troll, now that he owns the board and is one of the better owners this place has seen. :rotfl:

Anyway, what I'm getting at is that we shouldn't jump to permabans so quickly. Just my two cents.

And we don't. Faceman's ban is not permanent.
