Guns are designed for any purpose you might envision for metallic projectiles to be delivered at high velocity over a moderate distance with suitable precision.

For me, it's boring holes through evil Pepsi cans at great distance.

Funny, by arguing that guns were created for the purposes of 'killing', I am being put on the side of gun-control or 'grabbers', when I have never favored gun control. Even if they were primarily intended for hunting, that act still results in death. What's the big deal of recognizing this? Sure there are other uses, collection, target practice, etc. But was collecting on the mind of the inventor?

I'm sorry gun happy guys, your arguments are sometimes just as illogical as those who actively seek to try and grab your guns. You don't need a reason to own a firearm, IMO. As long as you're paying for it with your own money, are not a former criminal, I could care less what reason you're buying it for. If you happen to use it in a criminal act, then there are laws already in place to take care of it.

It's just, IMO, comparing accidental deaths from a doctor not being able to save a patient or misdiagnosing vs accidental gun deaths, are not even remotely the same. Most of the time an accidental gun death is killing a person which is otherwise 100% healthy, whereas when a doctor receives a patient and diagnoses wrong or treatments don't work for, the person is not healthy and is already at risk of death.

Ya can't help but get into that "duck season!/wabbit season!" argument. It's kinda the nature of the subject.

It's when the antis come with their blanket "All a gun is GOOD FOR is killing" sound bite that gets me more riled. Because, as a collectors and professional target competitors show, that's plain wrong.

I guess sometimes I lump the "all it's good for" in with the "was originally made for" argument out of reflex.

I never said that all it was good for was killing, however. Just what it's original intent was for. A gun or firearm, anyway, not a canon. Perhaps I should have said it's primary purpose or original intent was for war.

It would probably help if people read what you had to say, instead of pre-determining your position in a debate.

For instance, I would never argue for stricter gun control.

Much like a grenade is useful for any purpose you might want shards of metal explosively sprayed in all directions? :D
