the Wordforge twitter account - presumably automated? - tweeted a link to "buy cialis viagra" or some shit. Bad optics - someone might want to look to that.
Maybe I'm forgetting something, but I was under the impression that the twitter account was run manually by @evenflow, @tafkats, and @mburtonk. Why would it tweet a spammer thread?
Probably not a bad idea, but I wonder if any gate keeping is available. We prevent most spammers before they activate, but now and then one gets through. I suppose we could add a hoop for jumping through in the registration process.
some of the other tweets have been...awkward (like when someone bumps a 6 year old thread) but that's the first bit of outright spam
Yeah, I don't think tweeting every thread title is a good idea. WFers see the thread titles here; other audiences, for whom this would be intended, won't understand 75% of them, much less be attracted by them.
It tweets every thread title that is new, or that gets a reply, so it thinks it's new. Not sure why you want twitter but not to tweet ; but I can change it.
I love twitter. I'm just not sure what this: ...is going to tell anyone who isn't here already. I'd see more potential benefit in tweets that pick and choose interesting discussions and represent them with more descriptive or engaging phrases than our -- highly enjoyable! -- in-crowd, tongue-in-cheek titles often afford.
And here we go, with why auto tweets might not be such a great idea: http://www.wordforge.net/index.php?threads/john-likes-little-boys.105192/
@mburtonk, @evenflow, @tafkats: Please turn off the auto-tweet and delete the recent spate of faceman generated tweets. During his vacation, we can determine a policy around this, but for now, let's go back to manual only.
I haven't figured out how to disconnect it. I have locked the account and changed the password by I doubt that helps.
It was me. Sheesh, I can't spend all day on here. EDIT: Sorry, sent that from my phone, so it was brief. I've fixed my email address since you guys did try to get in touch with me earlier.
Yeah, that's the dilemma. Nobody's going to dispute that it's better to have a hand-curated feed than an automated one, but does anybody really have the time to do that with a high level of consistency? And does there come a time to say "We all know it's not the best, but something is better than nothing"?
I thought the Twitter thing was always set up to be "manually generated". Considering some of the threads that get posted here, doing it automatically isn't a good idea at all.
That's where I'm coming from. Why even have a Twitter account if not to advertise what goes on here? Perhaps that's part of the overarching discussion about whether the owners want more or fewer people to know this place exists (including not letting search engines crawl...). That being said, y'all seem to have something you aren't very proud of around here...
I think the goal should be lots of tweets, but there should be some human gate keeping. Is it possible for the bot to collect tweets for approval? That way somebody could give a thumbs down to certain tweets.
If we ditch the twitter account, we'll drop in search engine rankings, for certain. How much depends upon on variables decided upon by specific search engines, and its not something they make public.
Do the owners/staff care? Again, I get mixed messages between "We need more members" and "Nobody should know about this place."
