From what I can read, people have more problem with the guilt trip factor than the procedure itself. I remember a thread a while ago that discussed forcing women to have the old fashioned sonogram before an abortion and shoving that into their faces, and people objected the that as well.

    ETA:

    ...:wtf:

That's crazy to me that someone can even waste the court's time with such cases like this.

In which case he shouldn't get paid for the job. Oh, or maybe he could be sued for malpractice. But he's not one of the parents and saddling him with a parental responsibility is absolute horseshit.

He's not being saddled with parental responsibility. He doesn't have to raise the kid. He just has to pay for the child's expenses because those expenses exist because of his gross negligence.

Yeah, that's what I thought. No answer.

If you ever have an abortion, you and your doctor can decide how to handle the procedure. That is the beginning and end of the influence you have any right exerting over the subject.

I find it interesting that it has been stated so many times in the past that only women should be allowed to have an opinion on abortion, but because Tamar has the "wrong" opinion, it is men tearing into her in very bitter terms.

I guess the "only women are allowed to state their opinion" thing only applies to "women who are in favor of abortion"...

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and that opinion may only influence their own choices. Tamar isn't just stating her opinion. She wants to impose policy on others.

Nope. Any woman who doesn't want to have an abortion has exactly the same right to make that choice. And I won't even demand that she has an intravaginal ultrasound to look at the fetus and decide if she really still wants it. I'm generous that way.

I don't want the IVU to force the mother to look at the damn thing...I want IVU for the Techs and Doctors to look at. I want it because it's the safest and most informative test that can be used. :jayzus:

Then you would not seek to interfere with some other woman declining those measures, yes? YES?!?

Anyone can stupidly decline any test at any time, no one has a say in that but the patient.

But making the UVI the gold standard is just good medicine.

No, those expenses exist because baby-mama and baby-daddy couldn't keep their shit in their pants. Unless Doctor Doofus was either baby-mama or baby-daddy, taking care of the kid in any way, including financially, isn't his responsibility.

The UVI remains legal. If patient and doctor agree it is the best thing for the given situation, they are free to go with it. The only application of that law is to force the procedure against the patient's and/or doctor's assessment.

Then doctors and patients can choose it on their own. It does not need to be imposed by law on be half of people with completely other agendas.

Gotta disagree. If you own a car and take it to the mechanic who removes the brakes, leaves the car in neutral at the top of a hill and it rolls down and kills someone, who do you think is responsible.

Yes the parents did the deed. However, they made a decision that would have taken care of the issue. The gross negligence of the dr prevented that from happening. His issue, his responsibility. Be it through malpractice or payments.

That's what Skin's been saying. Hit him with malpractice. But he didn't create the child, so the child itself is the parents' responsibility, not his.

^ Then we're essentially debating what to call the payout and if it's to be a lump sum or in installments. Either way works.

Well, if the parents didn't want the kid and gave up their obligation when they chose abortion, then maybe the doctor should get to keep the kid as well as pay for it.

Seems ridiculous that the parents get to both abrogate their financial obligation and get the kid they suddenly want and love.

Talk about getting your cake and eating it too!

Seems like the doctor should only owe emotional trauma and repayment of medical bills. If they didn't want the kid, they could have adopted him out. Now that they want him...it should be their responsibility.

    Medical malpractice, settlement, probably structured.

Child support sets a seriously deranged and dangerous precedent. If Skin were that Doctor, he'd challenge the child support on the basis of paternity. And if that Doctor got a judge worth a shit, he'd win on that basis.

Absolutely. Since a child is an object that can be bought and sold, I see nothing wrong with giving her or him to the one person that has demonstrated gross incompetence beyond all doubt. After all, what would Solomon do?

Why not? They didn't want it, he has to pay for it, why shouldn't he get to raise it?

Because he might be a bad father, and one needs to act pre-emptively in these things. After all, he is a bad doctor and good logic shows us that bad doctors cannot normally be good parents.

    It makes perfect sense...

    But at least he's rich.

Well... was. See? They're fucking up the kid's life already, they're perfect parents!

Yes, it's best for the child to live with the two people who paid to have him killed...and chose the most incompetent person possible for the job. Their judgement is obviously stellar!

This seems excessive. Yeah, the quack can and should be struck off, and compensation given, but the kid can be put up for adoption if it's not wanted. The child maintenance fees aren't needed.
