Did I miss this thread? Has anyone seen this? If you haven't then I urge you to go see this movie. I love it. Not only is this now my favorite Spider-Man movie, it may very well be my favorite superhero movie of all time.

    Yeah... I said it.

When Sony decided to reboot the Spider-Man franchise after Sam Raimi decided to move on, there was a campaign on the internet to cast Donald Glover, The actor that went on the be Lando Calrissian in SOLO: A Star Story. Of course, being risk adverse, and I don't blame them at all because I would've done the same thing, Sony decided to keep the character of Peter Parker as a white guy and they casted Andrew Garfield... They subsequently went on to make the absolute worst two films in the history of the franchise. With Disney acquiring Marvel Entertainment, the writing was on the wall for how long Sony would be allowed to keep making Spider-Man films.

Back at Marvel Comics, Brian Michael Bendis, the then writer of the comics got a bad taste in his mouth about the whole controversy over the rejection of Donald Glover as Peter Parker. Particularly, the argument that Donald Glover can't be Spider-Man because.. well.. you know... black! Why can't Spider-Man be a black guy? He wears a mask. The literal point of the mask is that anyone can be Spider-Man.

Introducing Miles Morales: The Ultimate Spider-Man.

I have to admit, I thought it was cool, but I've never read one of these comics. I kind of moved on from that medium as a whole about 20 years ago. But nevertheless, I thought it was cool. I had no idea how cool it was though.

Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse is the story of Miles Morales and how he came to be Spider-Man. The screenplay is by Phil Lord of The Lego Movie fame and I have to say that I am impressed by the number of obscure, alternate Spider-Man references this film touches on. This guy is either the ultimate Spider-man geek or he did a ton of homework.

It's hard to describe the animation style of this film. I forgot to mention this was an animated film... and the stylized way in which they did it is revolutionary. In the same way that Toy Story defined the genre decades ago, I predict we'll see more of this type of animation going forward.

Bottom line, I am so grateful that Sony kept the rights to make Spider-Man movies because if Disney had gained the rights, I am certain that this film would never have been made. I hope to see sequels to this soon. Between this movie, The PS4 game Marvel's Spider-Man and I hear the Venom movie is doing really well, 2018 is Spider-Man's best year ever.
