This is an interesting one. It does not get as trippy as I was expecting from the previews, but it was good. Basic premis: There is an Island prison where the inmates are being used as test subjects for mood altering drugs. The man running the experiments is also using the more pleasant drugs, and the people doing the experiments and the prisoners are all living together in an open community. They do not totally explain the deal, but it seems the prisoners get to live a lot more freely if they go through the experiments. The prisoners do seem to have to accept the treatments, but they are compelled to take the drugs psychologically, not forcefully. This has Chris Hemsworth starring as the doctor and creator of the experiment. He does a great acting job. Yes, it is his obvious face, but this is a manipulative intellectual schemer. I was expecting the plot to be more psychological and thinky, but it hits the ethical points and has some interesting drama and does not get overly psychadellic. It is a decent watch even though I was expecting a little more depth. It does give a bit of thought to what is us and what is our feelings. If you are familiar with certain psychology experiments and their ethics it really does present those up for a debate. Ot also gets into areas of redemption and self forgiveness. There are some good performances and it is worth the watch.
Spiderhead sounds like a bad SNL skit. My head is a spider!! How did this happen!!??! Ouchies!! Oh no!! I can't get through doors with the legs sticking all out!! I'm Spiderhead!!! (Studio audience awkwardly mumbles as they fade sadly to commercial)
