I was really looking forward to this, I had been hoping that there would be a way to download just your friend's critters and we could have a Wordforge Xenobiology section for the game. Damn, damn, damn...with our luck Packard will be banned before this game is ever released.
For those not in the know, ohell is the short term for the phrase "overtly-worse-hell" which is a place spoken of in the texts of a very short lived religious group that had a cult like following. As described in the texts ohell is far worse than the average person's perception of hell and according to the religion reserved only for, "incest fuckers, sheep fuckers, rapist fuckers, murderin' fuckers and those fuckers over at EA games". The religion did not have a flair for very dramatic language in its texts, but often found new ways of getting their intended point acrossed with varying degrees of effectiveness. One passage goes thusly: "w00t un2 j00, listne teh me 4 i m spk 2 u. teh ohell is teh hell 4 fuxors x100 and teh newbs (depending on various translations and editions this word can be any of the following: noobs, noobies, teh newbs, nwbs, nubs, et al) of teh haxors. \\^//||-||en j00 get teh ohell tell them teh 1337 haxors sedns j00, nub!!!!111!!!1!1!!"
Well from what I heard last night on G4, all they did was delay until fiscal year 09. So it'll still be coming out in 08, just a few months delayed.
From the videos I've seen, it looks pretty much done. Why would they wait another year to release it? They better not make it run on just Vista like MS is doing with Halo 2.
Because it's not done, they just showed us parts that were and played them in a way that wouldn't break the game.
I wouldn't worry about Vista too much. Maxis has had a very nice tradition of keeping system requirements as low as possible (well, at least until EA forces some expansions down their throats). Remember, The Sims 2 requires a whopping 16-meg video card .
Of course it also bogs down CPUs from three years later whenever more than three sims appears on screen
