I'm not following what handjobs and a TV network have in common. Tain't no way I'm clicking a porn link I'm not familiar with. That's a great way to get malware on your system.
We also have a thread about it. https://wordforge.net/index.php?threads/the-h-i-star-trek-bitch-and-moan-thread.114999/
I can, though I don't see why it's so hard to click a link and find out for yourself. It's a network that plays old TV shows. They play every episode of Star Trek in order six nights a week starting with TOS-ENT.
Why should I have to click a link? Why would you take the trouble to search for the thread instead of just providing the answer?
So the fact that there's a thread on this topic really hurt your feelings that much? FF might have his goofs and issues, but this wasn't one of them. Extract the stick, ya goof.
Okay, so that was a pretty good story. Lot's of 'splodey. On the grander scale, I'm wondering if they're laying some groundwork to minimize Burnham's presence? She's gone back to being incorrigible and, as good a look as it might be for the character, she's not being all that Starfleet. The only logical end to this path is she leaves to go on tour with Booker.
I don’t care about the thread. It was the fact that instead of simply saying what H and I was, he dropped a link.
Um, clicking is how computers work these days. You had to click to get into this thread. If clicking is too strenuous for you, why are you even here? And if you're scared of every link you click being fecophile porn...again...how have you survived the internet until now?
So, Discovery-A. Cuz history recorded the original as blown up. Dunno why some fans are having trouble solving this one. "Duhh...Enterprise didn't get an A after the refit!". Enterpise didn't sacrifice itself to save the timeline, and have the cover story be that it blew up.
Couldn’t you have found a two hour long Doomcock video to explain your position instead of that wall of text?
I was really expecting to be bothered by the idea of a crew quickly assimilating to completely new technology, but this episode did an excellent job in making it plausible through a bunch of little details: interfaces advancing also means they become more intuitive. I'm pretty much sold on it.
Pretty sure 80's-me could have worked out today's computers. And I'm pretty sure I could get an Ancient Roman up and going playing Mario in an afternoon. Basic computer literacy in a couple weeks. This week's ep is a 3 week jump. Plenty of time.
It was quicker for me to just drop a link, people do it all of the time. Hell, @shootER did the same thing in the H&I thread when someone else asked what it was. Nobody complained.
The NX-01 got a refit after they came back from the expanse and didn’t get an A. You know how I remember that? I saw “Home” on H&I the other day.
How is this hard? The letter designation isn't for the name of the ship, it's for the registry. So there could be multiple Enterprises but only the "1701 dash letter" denotes continuity between different ships.
Oh! And transporter badges! I've been saying every badge should be a transporter ever since Data had a mini-transporter in "Nemesis". There! They did it! I can sleep easier tonight.
"People might get aggro if they know Discovery has time-travelled" "Ah, just rename the ship and say it's a successor" "Should we at least change them out of their antique uniforms then? "Nah, fuck it"
In Star Trek: Online it's established that uniform rules are left up to the ships captain within reason, which explains things like different TOS ships having their own weirdo badges, Worf being allowed to wear a sash while Ro initially gets shit for her earring, Jellico being able to order Troi to put on a real uniform when Picard allowed her to wear civilian clothing, that mix of TNG and Voyager uniforms in Generations, and Voyager not switching to the First Contact uniforms after reestablishing contact with Starfleet. I'm sure if anyone asks, they can say it's Saru's little tribute to the original Discovery.
I'm taking this to mean that in the 24th century there legit could be a ship just cruising around like this full time:
Thoughts: -Isn't it kind of dumb to use your one of a kind rapid response ship for military engagements outside of a full-blown war? -Saru was wrong, and totally being shitty. Discovery and the Federation need every ally they can get, and the black box was extremely important. What Discovery doesn't need is Michael on the bridge just to go shoot at some bad guys. Wrong call, just to create drama. I wonder if Vance openly disagreeing with Saru is foreshadowing the end of his time as captain? (We all know it's gonna be Michael eventually, right?) -Michael did cry and disobey orders this episode! I own Federal Farmer a chocolate milk or something. -Poor Linus, doomed to Quantum Leap around the ship forever. My Jem'Hadar crew has an Andorian bridge officer dressed like Abraham Lincoln.
Maybe. It would depend upon what OSes you were familiar with back then. Mac? Yeah, you'd not have any problems. MS-DOS, or the various flavors of operating systems that depended upon who made the computer? You'd need someone to explain it to you, but you'd get up to speed pretty quick. Nope. First, and I cannot emphasize this enough, the concept of video games, or even video, was way outside of anything that your typical Roman would have experienced. The most advanced game they would have had in that era would have been something like Parcheesi. Nothing at all like RPGs or something that didn't resemble a card game or your generic board game. Depends upon how you define "computer literacy." If you mean "able to do a few things," then yeah, I can see that. If you mean, "able to grasp what a computer program is and how it works, even if they don't know anything about coding software," then no. Remember, your average Roman wouldn't have been literate, so before you could get them to be able to do anything meaningful with a computer (like looking up a Wikipedia entry), you'd first have to teach them how to read. ~Maybe. It depends upon how dramatically things have changed in the nearly 1,000 years. Some aspects would certainly be the same, while others would have changed. The advantage a crew from the 23rd Century going to the 31st Century (more or less) would be that the 31st Century tools could be easily adapted to the levels of understanding that someone from the 23rd Century would have. A helmsman from 1020 AD would have trouble understanding the computer interfaces a modern ship has, especially since a 1020 AD ship would have had to rely on sails to get anywhere, while the ship's wheel on a modern cargo ship (if what's portrayed in the movies I've seen is correct) wouldn't be too difficult to master. Mind you, the helmsman would find the lack of resistance in a modern ship's wheel to be puzzling.
-isn't that the idea though? that it's tactically a sucker punch? -agreed, even go a step further that she's proven to be a liability in capitol ship combat. like the ship, she's better as a sniper/sucker punch -don't forget the chicken nuggies! -what does Linus do, anyway? He's like a cock blockhead...
I mean, it can jump in and out of a battle quickly... and possibly jump to dodge weapons fire, but it's still just one ship. One ship that can't fall into enemy hands under any circumstances. More like, what doesn't he do? But Wikipedia says he's a science officer.
Oh yeah, and between the incompetent captain Dayton on Lower Decks and this entire episode that kept hyping up a big space battle that never occurred, I'm convinced someone in the modern Trek writers room has a grudge against one particular assistant football coach.
Best suggestion I've seen is that he should just suddenly appear in Lower Decks Season 2, say something like "Well this definitely isn't right..." and pop back out again.
Okay that episode felt like filler. Glad to see Saru sticking to his guns. He should make the blonde headed chick his number one. Honestly this crew would be better off without Burnham. She's too emotionally unstable and too undisciplined. I want to one day see Saru get all Picard/Sisko on her ass and chew her the fuck out. So far he's keeping his cool, but every captain gets pissed from time to time. Hell, do what Sisko did to Worf when he wanted to resign and make her seriously think about what she wants with her life. Either way, she needs to shit or get off the pot. Nice little moments with Staments, Adira and Culber. I really think these secondary characters are where this show should focus. When they get these moments, the actors nail them. Hopefully the writers will pick up on that. Good to see that Vance is so far not a crazy Admiral, but more of a strict guy with little time for sentiment. That makes sense considering the circumstances. He's a Jellico light. I liked the scene with Tilly and Gauge. Just what cats do. Do the writers know that Andorian antennae grow back? Next week's promo, guess what, more hugging and crying. Do the writers think that everyone is always on the brink of emotional outbursts? I get it, yoou live in California so everyone is seeing a therapist and everyone is suffering from something. That's not the rest of the world, ladies. I will admit though, this show is getting better at capturing the spirit of Star Trek, but they need to make it more of an ensemble cast because for me, the supporting cast is so much more interesting. We still haven't seen jack shit about Bryce and the other guy, what's going on with them? Are they being excluded because they're cis gendered? What about the blonde chick? We still haven't gotten much further with Detmer either. Anyway, glad to see some Vulcans coming up. This is a biggie guys, don't screw it up.
I'm not a "wrong font" guy in the least, and really don't care too much about ship design. But those floating nacelles on Discovery are just fucking weird.
