Have you seen the third movie? If you have not seen the third movie, there is more to the whole conclusion, and it is done as good as the series.

I would put moopsy more on the marketable killer cute thing. I would put it more like a baby yoda, or deadly pokemon. Kyubey is more Q level, and the mascot of magical girls is a thing that goes back to Sailor moon and earlier. I am just nerd twitching at a big technical difference in the comparison. That still doesn't change the fact there is a space waiting for a moopsy right next to my kyubey plushie. When adorable kills is awesome.

But even going down to where anime does it better Martian Successor Nadesko was the rag tag ship of idiots based on manga and anime series. The Baka in my sig is a reference to what Ruri would constantly say about her crew mates as they got into love septagons, started and won intergalactic wars with the jovian lizards and even their earth space fleet, and MSN may have been the breakout series that showed a parody sci fi series can also be amazing with plot and character growth. The ripples of the success of MSN's parody had effects in american animation, and I am sure the lower decks humor traces back to the impact of MSN.

At the time MSN was probably right under Gundham for popularity, and is probably the parody series or parody series. I think one of the reasons they don't touch it is the fans would kill them for touching the perfection of that series. Star Trek needed Lower Decks for the fans, but that is because Japan showed the US the importance of good parody in animation.

Also the ep where Crusher reveals she doesn't give a shit about Starfleet protocol when she's cumming ("when your toes curl up"). Which should have been a warning about the later ghost sex.

    No, this is Paramount+
They don't bring back DS9, they call it "Sisko" but make it about Jake.
Then they finally bring Ben back for season 3.

I'm not sure if the actor could pull it off, but there was a scene in the DS9 relaunch novels where Jake had to finally unleash his inner Avery Brooks to save the day, and I'd love to see that in live action.

They could totally make a series where Jake is Bajor's version of Tintin, ostensibly a reporter who keeps foiling bad guys. :chris:

The entire relaunch series is about bringing Sisko back. That would be a cool tv series.

If for some reason SNW finds itself crossing over with DS9, I could totally accept him as the recast.

Actually now that I've said it aloud, I want to see Pike's Enterprise bump into DS9 during its era.

Having grown up in the exact same racist hometown at about the exact same time, I definitely feel this one a lot. The 90s had a LOT of films that were either about slavery or surviving the hood and the few positive representation examples we did have were all overachievers who often felt like they were talking down to us instead of having a dialogue. Which among many reasons is why I'm glad LD casted a Black woman lead who is imperfect and has work to do to heal herself but who doesn't have the pressure that probably every Black millennial child in 93 percent white ass Vacaville had to Think Of the White People™ when monitoring our behavior.

And related tangent, but although I do genuinely ship this on its own merit, if Mariner and Boimler actually did get together as the first black/white couple without the Black one in alien makeup, it would make the heads of certain people explode and I am absolutely here for that

The Occupation of Bajor didn’t start until 2319. Assuming Terok Nor was built specifically to process ore obtained from Bajor, it wouldn’t have existed in 2250 (When Pike took command of the enterprise).

Actually, if more tv shows were just that, just a Black person happened to get the role and not one episode about race or slavery. Agree with Tawney, yes, those stories are important, but white people get tired of hearing them too, which is why you have so many white people willing to side with white supremacists when it comes to entertainment. Keep history in the classrooms, and out of entertainment, rather than vice versa.

It's probably naive of me, but I'd like to think that anyone watching Star Trek in the year of our Lord 2023/2024 who is not OK with interracial marriage either does not exist or probably is a meme away from having their head explode from all the other cognitive dissonance that they must endure anyway.

You'd think so, but I did once read a Reddit post from a guy who once stated that Boimler couldn't possibly be attracted to Mariner because he's only been attracted to "conventionslly femme" women. Given Mariner is not exactly built like Doctor Phlox and isn't especially butch, there's not many charitable interpretations of that sentence

    Screenshot_20230131_065734.jpg

Maybe it's just an unfortunate coincidence that most of the extremely hated pairings in Trek often involve white women with a man of color like Troi and Worf and C/7 and the three minutes Rios and Kim from Scott Pilgrim vs the World were together in Picard, but given some of the extremely racist shit thrown at Burnham and Raffi, perhaps that bias is worth examining but that's all I'm gonna say about that in MC :bailey:

I admit my head probably would explode if Mariner and Boimler hooked up, but that's because I think Mariner views Boimler as something on the spectrum between "geeky younger brother" and "favorite pet."

Funny enough, I actually felt this way until that Crisis Point II story, and after seeing Mariner comforting Boims...I dunno, I warmed up to it after that because if felt for the first time that they were equals instead of Mariner just bullying him and truly bought into their friendship.

That's why DS9 and Lower Decks are so awesome.

No one in Starfleet bats an eye about skin color, creed, gender or sexuality. DS9 (among other Trek shows) shows a future of acceptance that humanity can hopefully one day achieve.

One of my biggest issues with Discovery since they flash forwarded to the future is the horrible writing and plotting. I think a byproduct of that is that they simply try too hard in the diversity department and it ends up landing with a thud (IMO) because it's so poorly written. They should take a cue from some of the other Trek shows.

I guess first of all, we have not really seen Boimler have an on-screen relationship. We saw Boimler-controlled-by-an-alien have an on-screen relationship. I don't think we have seen Boimler expressed interest in sex or dating. There was the gag where all the hot women working at his vineyard were blatantly hitting on him and Boimler just ignored it. For all we know, Boimler is ace.

That said, "conventionally femme" isn't just about looks but also attitude. The fact that she is an action hero in her own right would arguably take her out of the "conventionally femme" category, or at least move her closer to the butch part of the spectrum (And yes, there are conventionally femme action heroes like Buffy.

Again, could be naive, but c7 was horribly written and out of the blue, after years of possible buildup for J/C, J/7, D/7. W/T was also largely out of the blue after teases of R/T returning and given it contradicted what Worf supposedly looked for in a woman. I don't know what the knock was on Rios/Jurati or that there even was a knock.

I'm not so naive to think that there aren't racist in Trek fandom. But I think that they are more of the variety to complain about how diversity is being overemphasized in a franchise that coined the phrase "infinite diversity in infinite combinations" and less the type to be "them mud men should keep their hands off our precious white women."
