Star Trek Movie Themes Question

Why does there have to be a different musical theme for each Star Trek movie that comes out? Why can't they use the same theme for each movie?

Presumeably they want to make things more interesting.

It would be completely fucking boring.

Bond didn't have the same theme twice in 21 movies, why would Trek? Why would ANYone?

Hmm, part of me would like to see them try vocal pop themes like Bond.

No "Faith Of The Heart", stuff, of course.

It gives each movie its own individuality.

That and a good script.

I wish that either the ST:TMP or the STII:TWOK themes would have been used throughout all of the movies!

I liked the First Contact theme and soundtrack in addition to those two.

Well, this thread inspired a search for a good TWOK music example and I found the video below. On top of all the other coolness, the music is just outstanding, IMO!

How would Khan know anything about Klingon proverbs, or even what a Klingon was?

He speed read the library computer in "space seed".

I thought he just read about Earth history. I guess he could have read up on Klingon proverbs too, but I thought the Federation and Klingons were in a cold-war type thing? I don't think Section 31/Federation Intelligence would bother with updating computers with Klingon proverbs.

And if Khan knew about Klingon proverbs by reading the Enterprise computer, how come he didn't know about the prefix code thing? Unless it was classified or something. But then why wouldn't stuff about the Klingons be classified?

Well, it's actually a movie. And I really liked the movie, but I couldn't help noticing those errors.

Then again, it was a TOS movie, so errors like that are to be expected.

So blind people can tell them apart.

I love Horner's score for II, but the best Trek movie music ever is the Klingon scene in TMP.

I found the music I believe you're referring to, but with Dr Who scenes as visuals. A good example of YouTube user creativity, IMO!

He could have overheard the Klingon proverb from an Enterprise crewmember during "Space Seed." And the prefix code was only known to senior officers, which is why Kirk ordered everyone else to clear the bridge, and then had to explain it to Saavik (and, not incidentally, to the audience).

He didn't need to overhear anything, Khan was a very intelligent man and since he came from a time before humans had first encountered extra-terrestrial life I think it's safe to say he would have been very curious to learn about it.

The way he uses the proverb is even like someone showing off new knowledge they have learnt.

Real life explanation: Nick Meyer wrote the script and didn't really know his Trek history all that well.

Fan explanation: Khan did some reading in Captain Terrell's quarters after he took the ship and before reaching the Regula station. One of the Captain's books was from Klingon literature.



Speaking of which, why the hell did the Captain beam down with Chekov to Alpha Ceti in the first place. Shouldn't he have sent someone else?

Who's to say that Kirk didn't leave some reading material with Khan when he marooned him?

Excellent point - he does have copies of Moby-Dick and Paradise Lost.

Khan saw "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" when it was in theaters.

That's how he figured out where to hit Enterprise, but then he had to go take a leak before the prefix code part.

That said, Kirk should have been courtmartialed for getting caught with his britches down like that. For example, Honor Harrington would have caught Khan with HIS britches down, then shot both ends off his ship and rammed him in the middle...

edit: Hmm, that theme actually works pretty well with DS9.

The TMP theme was re-used frequently throughout the film series, and notably for TNG.
And the TWOK theme was reused in TSFS.
