TBH, there's one big unpulled thread from TNG I'd really like to see addressed: And that's the backstory between Guinien and Q. I didn't even particularly like her as a character but that intense scene when the went claws out on each other is just begging for...something. One way that I've often thought that they could expand even more on their trek content is not so much by making yet another series but buy doing straight-to-streaming movies that didn't have the baggage of needing to be a "Big Summer Movie(tm). There's probably not a few one-off 90-minutes-ish tales that could be told.
My fanfic for that is he gave her the Riker test (ala giving her Q powers) and she kicked his ass, then she wished the powers away, but still pretended to have them.
I want that backstory and Guinen and Picard's backstory. I'm sorry, but "Time's Arrow" doesn't cut it.
meh... This might be a case of somethings better left being a mystery. Nothing they come up with will ever be better than the sort of backstory you imagine in your head.
That's generally why most prequels fail. Think of all the mystery surrounding the Clone Wars and the rise of Darth Vader in the Star Wars franchise. It gave us fans lots to think about for decades, until George Lucas came along and managed to properly fuck it all up.
If anything happens that derails season 2, it's now your fault. You've created bad juju just by mentioning it. Legions of Star Trek nerds are going to lynch you.
Hmm. This just received a "GFY" for some reason, which drew my attention back to it. It's interesting to note that my thoughts following Season 3 of Discovery have nuTrek slipping much closer to the level of Voyager...
Picard and Lower Decks nominated for NAACP image awards. https://trekmovie.com/2021/02/02/st...lower-decks-nominated-for-naacp-image-awards/
I've thought about it, and I can't shake the thought that "secret Romulan conspiracy is happy to let countless Romulans die just to advance their shadowy agenda" feels gross to me. Nearly every Trek species or plotline takes some sort of inspiration from the real world. Who are we supposed to see reflected here?
In WWII, the UK effectively allowed several cities to be bombed rather than risk letting the Germans know that the Enigma machines had been cracked.
Okay, so what's happening with Paramount+ vs CBS All Access? Super Bowl commercials are pretty explicit Star Trek is going to be on the former. Are they merging, or did Paramount buy back Trek?
It's replacing All Access. CBS All Access is dead, long live Paramount+: “New” streaming service launches March 4 The service combines CBS, MTV, BET, Paramount, Nickelodeon, and more.
That seems like a much better value than CBSAA ever was. I wonder how big the Nickelodeon library will be. I'd love to watch You Can't Do That on Television again.
Here's what's happening as best as I can figure. Paramount and CBS are both owned by Viacom, and have been for a while now. (At some point in the past, both Paramount and CBS were the same company, then they got split off from one another for reasons, and both were still owned by Viacom.) Viacom has decided to merge the two of them. The advent of streaming services has added a new wrinkle to all of it. Outside of the US and Canada, Paramount is better known than CBS. So a CBS branded streaming service in the US is going to have a fairly large built-in market. Outside of the US? Not so much. So Viacom has decided to gradually merge the two streaming services under the Paramount+ moniker since that will have larger international appeal. At some point, they'll phase out the CBS All Access stuff but I'm not entirely certain of where and when. IIRC, by this time next year, CBS All Access will basically be dead, and Paramount+ will handle the streaming stuff for both.
Definitely. The only thing I've ever watched on the CBS app are DSC and Picard. The Michael Chiklis series looked mildly interesting but I haven't bothered to watch it yet.
Hate to say I told you so, but I told you so. CBS AA relied on Disco to be the launching pad for CBS AA, but even though they don’t release their numbers, Disco hasn’t been what they wanted it to be and Paramount Plus is taking over. Get ready for Disco to be canceled and a new version of Trek to emerge.
