    :Oooo:

I like it, but it would take a young actor with just the right kind of gravitas to play Picard.

Of course, you realize that could also mean . . . :calli: Jack Crusher.

The actor who played Rene/Young Picard could probably play Picard by now.

As long as he doesn't...burn to death in a fire :sob:

A time after the TNG, DS9 era where the Federation was not as great as it was made out to be, where other worlds cut out of it (like the Marquis did).
And the Feds new Masters don't take too kindly to that idea of other worlds being independant and go all out to keep the status quo, turning out to be more like the Klingons and Romulans were. And the Feds gleeming super tech isn't all that great at solving mans problems after all 'cause more tech isnt always the answer.
In other words, a Star Trek where the focus is on the characters and not glitzy FX.
And the Federation is no longer the Hero's organisation anymore.
Yeah I know. Sounds like Firefly. But set in the Trek universe it's different from the concept that a one size fits all Federation where everything is all sunshiny and great because of supersience and technology. And turning the Feds into the bad guys in the Trek future would be a twist on Trek. :D
Besides. The captain and squeeky clean offices of the Enterprise x or whatever, saving the galaxy from alien threats is old and tired.
Yeah "Star Trek the Dark Age"

Why not just do Star Trek from a POV outside Starfleet?

There are all sorts of other things going on in space besides government business.

Just as one for instance, something during the TNG era centered around Vash.

Been saying that for years. Civilian transport/freighter/smuggler ship of some kind. See if they can rip off the Millenium Falcon and Serenity at the same time, drop 'em in the post-Nemesis 24th century.
