So, based on all the posters on Wordforge and only a handful posted in this thread, that means only UA and I in the world are the only people who didn’t know the 88 thing. You’re delusional. You say you know it’s a hidden meaning, but assume if someone says they don’t know then they are lying.
"Education" that doesn't leave you with marketable skills that allow you to pay your bills is an abject failure, and it is entirely reasonable to object to paying for it.
Then how do you suggest young people who, through no fault of their own, get a job if the job requires a 50K+ piece of paper but they don’t have the 50K to get that piece of paper?
Agreed. But you know as well as I do that corporations and higher education has been pushing the idea of the necessity of higher education for at least 4 decades.
Didn't say you were lying. What I am saying is that a lot of people do know about it, to the point where it has been in multiple mainstream publications read by popular masses. It's not bad if you didn't know it, no one knows everything, but UA's response was to be a stubborn ass instead of taking a moment to listen and learn about something he didn't know. See post #12 in that thread. You said you don't know anything about it, or didn't, and then you said it is not well known in the US, but I have posted the above articles, it's also in the ADL hate words database: https://www.adl.org/resources/hate-symbol/1488, it's in the dictionary: https://www.dictionary.com/e/politics/1488/, it's on Wikipedia, as mentioned, it became well known thanks to Trump: https://www.mediaite.com/online/why-are-people-tweeting-about-trump-14-words-and-white-supremacy/, which was all over the news at the time. It's pretty well known, but that's not even the crux of the issue. It's the pattern of behavior UA has, and how he reacts to things he doesn't know or understand. Instead of learning, he just gets angry and assumes everyone else is somehow wrong. He's done it in this very thread about student debt. For the love of Mike (no offense @MikeH92467), take a look at what he says here, and see it from the perspective of people who have dealt with this from him day in and day out for almost two decades. He's not some mysterious new stranger, he's @Uncle Albert, a poster on Wordforge who has a long reputation for seeing the obvious and rejecting it immediately and dismissing anything anyone has to say about it, regardless of their experience with that subject. Now we've wasted so much time on UA when we could be spending it doing something much more interesting and/or productive.
Because, when you are saddled with massive debt, you are less inclined to walk away from a shitty job you hate, so they can be bolder about low wages and escalating demands on your time. It is a collusion. Going into debt is funding your own subjugation.
So, you don’t think that anyone at an event related to a political party that’s consistently called for lower corporate taxes for decades might also have agreed with lower corporate taxes?
As I said, UA is responsible for his own posts, so I won’t answer for them. And just because you or anyone else posts a link to a news article (or otherwise) does not mean I am under any obligation to click that link and read the article. I could not care less about nazis or their hidden symbolism. I think they should all be arrested and imprisoned. I believe free speech should not be a thing. Speech can be harmful and people should not be able to say anything they want.
I can accept it being popularly interpreted as Nazi imagery among those who are perpetually searching for some superficial thing that, like, totally oppresses them intangibly. And as I phrased differently in that thread you are claiming you have read, wake me up when they actually cause harm. Now if you want to resurrect that argument, take your silly little lightweight "my feelings dictate reality" mindset back over there and fail to articulate yourself in TWO threads.
Because it’s a message board and we’re having a conversation, and it helps me to understand your perspective on the situation. So, we can put you down for about a 30% tax rate on corporations. Good to know.
Also agree. But, just like not everyone is aware of all the hidden meanings of nazi shit, not everyone is aware of all the hidden agendas of predatory corporations. I don’t blame people for wanting better for their children. They were sold a load of bullshit to get as many people as possible to take out loans for education and then (hidden) raising interest rates to the point in which they ended up with an obligation to pay back twice if not three or four times the original loan.
It is definitely your right to ignore linked articles. Suffice to say, though, it's pretty well known. That being said, I completely agree: fuck Nazis. Why would I waste my time? Haven't you had enough attention for one day?
In the vain hope that you might ever come close to backing up a single thing you have said, without invoking wish magic or your all-important emotional state.
It’s been hilarious today to see the same people who have been bitching about the money going to help Ukraine not being used on Americans losing their shit over this student debt help
That's not strictly true. Where I resist is where "help" is offered unconditionally, without regard for individual merit, under the false assumption that everyone is a helpless victim of circumstance and anyone who disagrees is Hitler reincarnated.
but did you break your word? that was the goal post. But hey, feeling magnanimous here, so let's split the hair of whether you broke your word intentionally or if it was circumstances out of your control? besides, you already live in a gimmie state, don't you? probably the place you work at has enjoyed numerous tax breaks to stay afloat as well... I guess it's okay though because someone else is screwing taxpayers and you're just benefitting from that?
I've been rewatching "Turn" again. I think it's Selah Strong who responds to "no taxation without representation" by pointing out that there is no representation without taxation.
Years ago the government used to subsidize higher education and it was a lot cheaper. Republicans have been chipping away at that for years until there was nothing left.
The idea was that it was an investment into a well educated populace. There's a reason the US is falling behind everyone these days, and part of it is that the knowledge people seek out is being kept behind a gilded gate. It also makes it more difficult for those who can't afford college to become upwardly mobile. That route, too, has been closing off. Fewer people are upwardly mobile in the US than in past decades, and many in Gen Z have been starting to voice the realization that unlike their grandparents and great-grandparents, they might never own a home, may never have a retirement. Education opens the doors for so many, and the US insists on shooting itself in the foot so often.
