Well, one thing, being in the comic makes you canon. Harley Quinn was Timm-verse cartoon only until she was in the comic, then she could be everywhere. If it happens in a year, a decade, a generation, Dreamer will be in a movie now. The seeds are planted.

In fairness to DC, I think they had people from the Arrowverse write comics a while back. Based on a few of the reader comments in the news article @Diacanu posted, I don't think there will by any problem finding CHUDs.

Trans inclusion into the only DC property to be of any real interest to the fans? I cannot deny that the trans storyline is a new thread into the drama universe and it is an untapped motivator that can be seen as new and edgy for most people. Let us not forget the free advertising the right does with their pissbaby whining, and the profits from hate watching. boycotts may do something to CHUD beer brands like bud light because there is some connection with being a CHUD and liking cheepo american beers. However, people do not necessarily run away from a comic because of GLBT inclusion. It is much more of a boon to the comic than not to explore these new storylines with the old groupings. This is a fucking no brainer for comics as the mindless CHUDs do the movie thing because reading really isn't their thing. Even the movies are not harmed very much by the CHUDs who do not go because there might be a gay or trans character. This isn't the NFL or NASCAR, this is comic book and comic book movies.
She's not there by choice, if the previews are to be believed. As for why Waller wants her on the team? Well, a pre-cog is pretty damn useful.

In the Legion comics, Naltor's precog abilities are not controlled or directed. They have precognitive dreams that could be about this week or 5 years from now and all the contribute is insight into what they seem to mean. That said, Dreamer in the TV show was given (to my displeasure) a lot of combat abilities that were never there in the future and somewhat more of an ability to direct the dream IF she knew what to focus on (i.e. "the bad guy is going to bomb something and maybe I can see in a dream what his target is" sort of thing) I have no idea if they ramped up her abilities again in the comics, but from what we saw on screen, if Waller was, say, going to kidnap her and plant the bomb in a secret raid, she (Dreamer) would be at the mercy of whether the dreams happen to warn her or not (one could theorize that she was "destined" to play a part in this mission, since the precog thing by its nature implies an element of destiny in order for the dreams to be helpful)
So really we need her to be played by Christopher Walken in drag? If we can get that with her fighting Willem Dafoe playing Ryuk I would die in peace. If a trans Chistoper walken comic book hero vs Willem Dafoe asian death spirit is not the ultimate combination of live action comics and manga I do not know what is.
