It was a nice performance, but the amount of hype it's generated over the past week has been ludicrous. That same voice coming from the mouth of a cookie-cutter Hollywood "pretty young thing" wouldn't be generating a fraction of the attention this woman is getting. Her popularity is based on being an oddball, a carnival sideshow curiosity, the woman whose face looks like she was run over with a dump truck who happens to have a nice singing voice. It's the same effect that Jim Nabors (Gomer Pyle) generated - goofy onscreen persona, then people shocked at the fact that he could sing.
