The GoT thread in Media Central and Zombie's concerns made me want to clarify. Talking about bittorrents and sites to download the program and/or bittorrent files isn't a no-no here is it? If it is, I don't ever remember it being stated as such. I was gonna clarify in-thread but I wanted to check first. Post #55 and #60.
I don't believe it's ever been prohibited. Maybe it should be . . . I could get in quite a bit of trouble over such things.
My stance was that talking about the technology was okay. But, any hint/link/discussion of how to get the media got edited.
^ That seems like it might be a good policy if Lanzman can get in trouble. Where it gets a bit vague is sites you can get torrents from. You can talk and link to programs like bitcomet and utorrent. You can't link to the exact Game of Thrones file. But is talking about isoHunt, PublicHD, etc. ok? These sites contain both legit and illegal torrents, though the vast majority (more than 90% though that is changing) are for shows with copyrights.
This is pretty much the only standard that matters. Linking to and discussing torrent sites has repeatedly been held to be legal (at least in the US) but if you can get in trouble for hosting a site that has discussion of it, that's another matter.
Not for talking about it. I meant if people were to start posting links to individual torrents and like that.
I remember Borgs linking to a site made our Host shut us down temporarily years ago. It was a real pain in the ass for Elwood, IIRC. I don't know how likely is that to happen these days with our current host?
