See? If they'd follow my plan of the big fence with machine guns, land mines, and an occasional random artillery barrage, shit like this wouldn't happen.

I think that we should start by diggin a very wide, deep trench. Then we pour concrete into the trench, save for a drainage system lest it fill with water and they become able to swim across. Then we line both sides with razor wire, as well as some of the bottom of the trench. Put up a 10 foot concrete wall on the U.S. side of the trench and have a walkway at the top of the wall with watchtoweres every 150 feet.

Now we've given out a large number of contracts to skilled laborers and created new border watch jobs.

 Nothing in the story implies the bloke was entering illegally... This is a clear case of an agency not doing its job. Vent your spleen on its officials, not the poor sod who's ill.

That "poor sod" is knowingly and willfully putting other people at risk. Fuck him and his damned tuberculosis.

There are two parties at fault here:

    1) The Mexican man, who knowingly crossed the border so many times and endangered a *lot* of people.
    2) The Border Patrol's upper management, who delayed and delayed in issuing a warning about him to their agents.

Do we really know that? In the case of the twat mentioned in passing in the original article, who deliberately snuck into the US because he knew the authorities were after him, no doubts.
But it's entirely possible that this bloke didn't know just how sick he is. Unlikely, true, but possible. I'm not going to condemn him without a bit more evidence.

Well, the CDC or other health officials certainly knew, and warned the Border Patrol. I find it hard to believe that they knew but he didn't.

Hard to believe, but not impossible. People often go into denial about serious illnesses.

Seriously, not defending him, but finding it credible that he's not the big bad wolf in this case...

Denial does not absolve him of responsibility. It just means he indulged his weakness by refusing to accept reality, and endangered others in the process.

Er, no, it might mean that he just didn't understand what the doctors said. Happens.

That's not denial. That's ignorance and/or lack of comprehension.

That's news to me. I've always been told that ignorance of the law doesn't excuse you from it.
