Linkage I think this is a bit silly. How on earth is the ban meant to be monitored? Could he just not use another alias or PC? ETA: Oh, and talking about criminal activity is promoting it now?
Good luck enforcing it. Anyway I was about to outraged about freedom of speech issues until I got to this part Now I'm outraged by the lenient sentence. "Better not steal a car or you won't be allowed to brag about it online. For a couple years."
This is only part of the offense, of course, and perhaps even a very small part. Nevertheless, it is part of it. And that is an extremely dangerous precedent. Little as I like the offensive comments that a few posters here make about police officers, I certainly think they should be allowed to do so. The "offensive comments against officers" should have been totally irrelevant to the case.
It's all part of a progression. You start by outlawing speech and ideas people find offensive. Then you move on to what is obviously harmful. Then it will be things you will understand are harmful only after they explain the harm, then it will be things they decide to eliminate because they are harmful, but they don't even explain why now. Ultimately, they will just do what they want with a society full of people who don't even ask anymore because everyone knows the Gov't knows best and why would anyone doubt that?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/norfolk/7128662.stm This just about sums it up: Now, I know this lad is a scrote and a wrong 'un, but I totally agree with you, Async. Plus I've read elsewhere that the boy's internet useage was 'pivotal' in the case
