He is a moderator at TBBS (Garak) who basically uses the Gray Room as a place to monitor, goad and use stuff he finds there to target people he doesn't like. http://www.wordforge.net/showthread.php?p=1359980&highlight=Ten Lubak#post1359980 Also at TK: In response to my telling him I'd consider letting him back into the Gray Room if he contributed to WF for awhile something besides trolling Face. From this thread: http://www.trollkingdom.net/forum/showthread.php?t=86814 Beginning at post 37, pretty much recaps the whole thing.
The condition set for regaining access to the Gray Room was contributing something to the board besides trolling Face. I'll check his recent posts but I'd imagine he has contributed something beyond trolling Face. What I'm curious to know is who gave him access to Gray Room and did they make a post noting why Ten Lubak was let back in? As for allowing Ten Lubak access to the Gray Room, I say go ahead and let him post.
The single reason he is here is using the Gray Room to monitor people. And when I said "something" besides trolling Face, I meant spending some time on the board, becoming a part of the community and basically being a member, not TNZ Hall Monitor...that is expressly not what the Gray Room is for. All that aside...I, too would like to know how he got back and why. Is it a glitch or was it purposely done on his request? Does anyone know?
I'm pretty sure there's a way to, assuming permission overrides work at all sensibly, which is something they've not been known to do in the past, though we've never tested this combination before.
The point is, we've never tried that. Tamar, you probably just removed the checkbox from his usergroups no? Well he could just go and join the group again, since joining is public and automatic.
That right? Because I always assumed we could kick people from Blue for misusing material posted there, and suspected under-18s from White...
Yes, I just unchecked the box. Why do we even have this rule if it's impossible to kick someone out of the Gray Room when they abuse it?
I assume the difference is that the Blue and White Rooms require permission to join them. With The Gray Room, joining it makes you automatically a part of it.
Well, I believe it was Bear's call...T'Bonz was initially overtly acting on stuff she read here and he wanted people to feel comfortable venting their spleens without extra-board consequences. Something I agree with in principal, but I don't really think it's enough of an issue to make Gray a permission room over. I guess I am most inclined to dump any extra caveats and make the Gray Room simply "Discussion of other websites" with Red Room rules. If people plot trolls where other admins can read it, they get what they deserve. If admins act on discussions from another board, they will get what they deserve when people leave their boards because of unfairness. Thoughts?
On one hand I don't like the idea of one of the Trek moderaters spying on folks over here so that they have stuff to hold against them over there. On the other hand, it's sort of the responsibility of the staff of a BBS site to know who's who and what's what. Meh. Don't really care either way. We already know they're a petty bunch of muttonheads over there. Except for Spiff. Spiff's cool.
Theoretically, I think it should be possible to give a poster a set of permissions to keep him/her out of a room. However, the problem is that a) we've never tried at the poster level, and b) at the group level, more specific group permissions don't override more generic permissions; if any of a poster's groups give him access to a room, he has access to the room.
I don't think the Gray Room is worth any special gymnastics...it's a nice outlet and a good way to keep extra-board drama corralled, but does it really need to be much of an issue?
