The answer is simple, non muslims can call in sick on Labor day and 700 can do the work of 1200.

    Fucking unions. :jayzus:

Well, unfortunately, a majority rules and the company agreed to it.

Well, let's see. Nearly every company in the country (certainly every one I've ever worked for) has shut down on Christmas. Does Mr. Pentecost have a problem with that, or is it only bad when a religion other than your own is in the majority and being catered to?

I would not have agreed to this. I'd follow federal holidays. However if I did agree to it I'd make a split. Those who are Muslim can have that day off with pay if they give up their labor day holiday. That way everyone is happy.

And that is a fairly common arrangement. However, it might not work in this particular case. It may be that they can not reach an efficiency level with a partial shift. It depends on what's going on at the plant, but sometimes having half the workers there is less useful than having none of them.

The funny thing is that is sort of how some cities and such do things now. Since Veterans Day falls in November, what some cities have done is they have allowed their employees to have the day following Thanksgiving off with pay in lieu of working on Veterans Day.

Floating holidays would be a good solution. Or if allowing everyone to move their holidays around at will would be too chaotic for a shift-operated business, the company could have a "set" of holidays for employees to choose from. ("You can take three paid holidays in the final four months of the year. Choose between Labor Day, Eid al-Fitr, Thanksgiving and Christmas.")

If the Muslims are the majority in this plant, then they'll have to accept this. Majority rules and whatnot.

So I'm guessing they'll be volunatarily working on Christmas day for normal pay?

Is that how it works? So if the majority said no you can't have this day off with pay it would be fine and dandy with you? Or would you be claiming discrimination?

That's how a union works. One man, one vote.

What valuable information. Thanks Chris, I didn't realize that. Out of curiosity though, what about the women? Do they not get a vote if they are members of unions?

There's something...unholy about making people work Labor Day. I suppose it beats Christmas or New Years or something, but dang! Don't they get Columbus Day or some other stupid day that could be cut?

That's got nothing to do with it.

It's a foreign, alien holiday from a place where people have sexual encounters with camels, being forced down the throats of Americans. Complete with the revocation of the existing, American national holiday.

You are the worst kind of back-bender and especially with regard to Muslims, dhimmi.

No company is under an obligation to give its employees specific days off. Ordinarily, Christians being in the majority most places, Christmas is automatically a day off, while Jews or Muslims would have to either seek permission to switch days off or use a vacation day if they want to have a holiday off. I think a lot Christians in this country don't realize just how much they're catered to without anybody even saying a word.

I think if you've been working at a chicken plant for almost twenty years holidays should be the least of your worries.

This could be the motivation to jump start into a different career field.

    This should read "Fucking contracts."

Clearly, allowing individuals to bargain with one another and come to an agreement on their own is WRONG. We should have government interference that makes such agreements illegal!

Considering how idiotic you were thinking your description was necessary is the only stupidity I'm aware of in the above posts. You look like a complete moron pointing out something that is common knowledge and had already been mentioned before. It wasn't a revolutionary statement the first time it was mentioned let alone when you chose to post it again.

I'm sorry, where the hell did I say anything about the government?

BTW, no, I said fucking unions and I meant fucking unions.

I appreciate they look out for the little guy and all that rot but on the whole they've been fairly detrimental to the country IMHO. YMMV.
You can have the mob run your life but I'll pass, I do just fine without them.

100 points for a completely accurate statement (but -50 for poor grammar).

Personally, I think the bugaboo against ending a sentence or a clause with a preposition is archaic and should be dropped, but that's probably a debate for another thread.

That's something I have no quarrel with. To point out the very specific accuracy of his statement is what I added the boldface for. It is throughout the sentence structure as a whole that grammar is sinned against.

You poor thing. :itsokay: You are continuing on with the grammar whine. :grammarnazi:

What I have always found funny are people like you who bitch and whine about others grammar and spelling yet are not perfect in their own writing and posting. No surprise there given your political ideologies.

Well, in this case, it's because the majority of their employees are, in fact, Muslims.

So, maybe the same reason the vast majority of entities in this country are always kissing Christian ass?
