I hate writing thank you notes after interviews, since it really smacks of sucking up. I only started writing them during this current round of job hunting. But people I know who work in HR or who've hired people tell me they're pretty much standard now, and it stands out of you don't write one. When did this start, and have I really been missing the boat?

Also, what do we think about following up after an interview? I had one last week for a really interesting position and haven't heard anything yet. I feel like I should follow up via email (the person I interviewed with said it was the best way to reach her) but I'm not quite sure what to say.

    Thoughts?

I look forward to hearing from you soon regarding the challenges (X Company) faces in the new year and how I can contribute to your (continued success/surprising turnaround/efforts to keep ahead of your creditors).

    Thanks again for your consideration,

Mike (be as informal as your are led to by the tone of the interview)
