He killed a baby today. But it doesn’t matter much to him as long as it’s dead.

yes quite a catch-22: I can't inquire about said behavior without engaging in said behavior. Thus I will phrase my concerns in the form of a statement, which will be mocked as per usual. *
It would seem as if there is a double standard generally summed up as such: when certain wordforge members use a comparison or bring up a related even to state their issue it's seen as normal and expected discourse, but when other wordforge members engage in similar discourse it's considered "whataboutism/bothsidesism."

    * my winning an argument - or even acknowledgment that I may have a valid point - is of course a rare event with a liberal/conservative ratio of approximately 7-to-1.
I'm not complaining, I enjoy challenges and know full well that I'm the odd man out. That said moving goalposts and a double standard can lead to a frustrating situation.

    It's not really a Catch-22.

You can simply say "I don't engage in whataboutism" (which would be obviously false) or "It's fine that I engage in whataboutism" or whatever the heck it is you want to say without making reference to other people.

None of this has anything to do with winning an argument, you being conservative, or moving goalposts.

Here's a simple challenge: Can you for the next month make whatever point you are trying to make without using the argument "What about X person?" or "Both sides do it?"

yes that sounds like a good idea! And no doubt every other wordforge member will accept the challenge, and behave accordingly. Their fellow wordforge members will ensure that all members are treated fairly and equally despite any differing political views.

Typical Trumpista behavior: no matter what someone says revert to talking about the grievances. "Logic doesn't enter into it. Just tactics."

Boy this oughta really boost republican turnout!
President Trump took to Twitter Friday evening to make the unfounded assertion that Georgia’s two Senate races are “illegal and invalid,” an argument that could complicate his efforts to convince his supporters to turn out for Republican candidates in the two runoff races that will determine which party controls the Senate.
The president is set to hold a rally in Dalton, Ga., on Monday, the day before Election Day, and Georgia Republicans are hoping he will focus his comments on how crucial it is for Republicans to vote in large numbers for Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue, the state’s two incumbent Republican senators.
Some strategists and political science experts in the state have said Mr. Trump’s assault on Georgia’s voting system may be at least partly responsible for the relatively light Republican turnout in the conservative strongholds of northwest Georgia, where Dalton is, in the early voting period that ended Thursday.

Being a Georgia Republican voter (and interacting with other Georgia Republican voters) I will say that the general consensus is that Trump's ongoing election fraud fight will have little effect on the election. Most Republican voters can indeed "walk and chew gum at the same time" and completely understand the need for voting (senate control) even if they think that the November election was rigged to some level. As for the Dalton area if it's very heavy conservative then typically conservatives prefer voting in person so this could be why it seems they aren't as interested.

You could be right. That thought had occured to me as well. That said, this race is so close that every vote will count and anything that holds down turnout, however slightly, could make the difference. To quote your Fearless Leader: "We'll see"

This race will likely turn out to be extremely close, or at least one of them. But I don't see many split tickets happening - I can't imagine that too many people won't be all in for Democrat or Republican.
That said if there was only one race happening - Perdue versus Ossoff - Ossoff might win over Perdue if only because Perdue didn't attend the debate* and now he is in COVID quarantine and if any last minute campaigning is required he'd be hurting. But Ossoff doesn't have a dynamic personality or generate much enthusiasm so he is the perfect opponent to face if you have to be a "no show".

If it weren't for this runoff having national - versus state - significance turnout would be typically low. Interest would be minimal especially with Warnock being the only candidate generating much interest - a radical black preacher is hard to ignore, and you either love him or hate him.

    * Perdue not attending the debate was considered arrogant by many Republicans. He claimed that he's not an effective public speaker anyway, and being the incumbent people already know where he stands on the issues by now. But what about new voters who don't know much about him? Regardless he figured a debate was high risk, low reward if he came out on the losing end -which he very likely would have.

He's not just a "radical" preacher, he's a "black radical preacher"!

    :ohnoes:

Anyone interested in whether Rafael Warnock is a "a radical black preacher" should read this profile of him. They report, you decide.

My read from outside GA is that were it only Perdue's race he would edge it out, despite the constant stream of reporting that says basically "can you believe how corrupt this guy is?" simply because it's fucking hard to take down an incumbent senator (as November demonstrated nationwide)

But I get the sense that even a lot of Republicans hate Loeffler and were it her race alone she would lose pretty convincingly.

I'm mildly optimistic that due to the unlikelihood of ticket splitting that might pull Ossoff across the finish line. But it's concievable that some Republican-leaners who are not motivated by tribal loyalty might go vote for Perdue and simply not vote in the other race and you'd get a split result.

What impact do you think Perdue's sudden (some might say "convenient"*) COVID diagnosis might have?

I can't really see that. This election hinges on turnout and I can't see how staying home (for whatever reason) would be better than being out on the stump. I wouldn't put it put it past them to try something like that, but I just don't see it being worth the risk. :chris:
