Had some people over to watch the game, so I cooked for them. It started to rain before the fire got going well, but I improvised.
No, they're actually separate chambers. The guy who built it for me misunderstood my "directions" a little and made the tall box on the end separate (though it has its own venting/draft controls). I mostly use that box to roast corn, building a fire in the bottom and stacking the ears on the racks inside. All I would need to do is get a torch and cut an opening between the two boxes, but I'm still mulling over what I want to do with this pit. Part of me wants to have a separate fire box built and welded onto the right side of the pit, where the "handle" is. It would make it a lot easier to cook briskets in the main chamber, then. Part of me, though, wants to leave it alone and just go buy a much bigger, nicer pit that I saw for sale at an outdoor/camping/hunting store in a neighboring town. That thing is the Rolls Royce of pits. But, it cost something like $1400 dollars.
