It looks like ABC has officially greenlighted the Roseanne spin-off series, The Connors. It seems that Roseanne worked out a deal with ABC to do the spinoff so that the show will continue without her involvement. On the one hand, it's great that the rest of the cast and crew will have jobs. On the other hand, it still pisses me off that ABC used her tweet as an excuse to get rid of another conservative voice, just like they did with Tim Allen and his show.
Conservative? She’s a batshit crazy conspiracy-spouting loon. Are you saying that is what passes for conservative these days?
"Conservative voice" Yeah, because they didn't know she was a batshit Alex Jones type when they brought back the show in the first place. You partisan types, always looking for the victim angle.
Yeah, unless Tim Allen was going around blasting massecre suvivors and using racial slurs, Roseanne was rightfully shitcanned. At least the innocent actors aren't being punished for her mistakes and from what I read, Roseanne won't see a dime from the new project, so that's the best to be expected.
Roseanne conservative? Hardly. Pro-Trump. Yes. So, a lot of people may have had it in for her. However, it's impossible to defend her when she tweets something as mind-numbingly stupid and racist as she did. She had her dismissal coming. I don't watch the show--or any broadcast TV, for that matter--but I'm glad they're able to continue it, especially since audiences quite liked it. One hopes that the show can write out the main character and still find a way to work.
Whenever the show tackled a social issue, it always came down on the side of tolerance, or showed how intolerance is harmful. The revival was slathered with social goodness - the grandson who likes girls' clothes; DJ marrying the black girl he knew in grade school and having a kid; the Muslin neighbors Rosey was scared of and ended up defending against a bigot...
Yeah. The show was really good, with the best episodes being brilliant and the worst still turning out quite solid. Moreover, they really managed to put different political allegiances on screen together in a believable and often subtle way. I loved it. I hope they can go on without her. They have three amazingly strong leads, but Roseanne, as crazy as the actor is, was the heart and soul.
Like it or not, Trumpism is the face of US conservatism. Remember how they killed Dan and then went to Disney World? Yeah... I think it'd actually be interesting to see how the Conner clan does with her character croaking. There's some serious talent in that ensemble, and the groundwork is already there for some compelling stories. Give it a couple seasons and John Goodman could die off (he's gotta cost his old weight per episode) and the next generation could become as great as the original.
I never watched Rosanne (either version) and will not watch "the Conners" just because I don't watch much TV in general. But this would be a great time to be a critic so if the show is terrible I could say............wait for it........."the Conners? More like the goners!"
Roseanne Connor will be killed off. Saw that coming. About the only way you could go. So, they totally "The Hogan Family"-ed her. http://www.darkhorizons.com/roseanne-killed-off-for-the-conners/
I watched for Dan, and Jackie, anyway. Still, this should be interesting to see how it works out. I do hope it succeeds, if only because I like most of the actors and want to see them prosper. It's a shame it had to be this way, but that's what happens when you go on a racist tirade and enough people finally see it.
Been watching the reboot(?) without Roseanne, it's working pretty well. But then again it was a show that was never carried just by one character, rather it worked by having all the characters interact and be a part of the show. Hmmm... how weird/meta/kinky would it be to have a threesome with the two Becky's, Lecy Goranson and Sarah Chalke?
better than having a threesome with the two different Darins from Bewitched! Hey! I have a red shirt similar to the first Darin! Is his collar all askew or what? BTW that second Darin is one dorky looking mother!
Noticed that Sara Gilbert is getting production credits... good for her. I'm kinda liking this better without Roseanne chewing the scenery and getting the final lines... way more strength in the ensemble. Less stunting too, it seems. Much like her kissing Mariel Hemingway back when, the whole Muslim neighbours thing was a whole lot of nothing... did we ever see them again? nope. And could we at least have got the baby brother to show up after she died? he's been totally Chuck Cunningham'd! Thinking about it, I never did watch the show for her, more like in spite of.
Dan and Darlene seem to be playing off of each other exceptionally well, and I love the little fellow, Mark. He opens up a whole lot of solid storylines. I just want to see him succeed, because he's so sweet, and bright. He has this optimism, that spirit of resolve to push forward and be true to yourself, something I wish I had followed through on as a child. It would have saved me a hell of a lot of emotional pain.
generally, yeah... I like that they created teh character and the kid playing him is brilliant-but kinda worry that we'll never get a "very special episode" out of it. For Trumpland, IL Lanford seems remarkably and uncharacteristically accommodating. Still, if it's an example that helps to normalize... That aside, they did a great job casting all of the kids. Agreed on the Dan/Darlene dynamic... also not a bad job on him and Jackie. A little bit of awkward tension at the end of that last episode with the chickens. Fifty quatloos says they'll have an almost kiss moment by the end of the season, with about half odds on them waking up together. OG Becky/Temp Becky has a lot of potential to be an odd couple situation. I could see TB hiring OGB as a nanny or something.
Oh good! I’m glad I am not the only one who kind of sees a Dan/Jackie awkward moment happening sometime in the near future. I love OG Becky, and love some of the great lines she’s getting this time around. As for Mark, yeah, it’s a bit peculiar that he gets treated as well as he does in Lanford, all things considered. Like you, I’m hoping it’s an example of people finally realizing that a boy wearing a dress isn’t the end of the world. I am also pleased to see how big Dan’s heart is, in that he loves his grandson and wholly accepts him and loves him, even if he doesn’t quite understand everything.
