--https://archive.is/v3XkV#selection-1093.0-1101.264 What can you say about such people? Instead of starting a dialogue with the (fake) student about why and what parts of the US constitution are "triggering" to her (or sending her straight to the loony bin) the professors indulge her in her (fake) idiocy and shred the law of the land. Yeah, I wonder why that is. Jeez.
Might I add deluded and misguided to her inadequacies? So what is her solution - her replacement for The Constitution? Molotov cocktails and Sharia law with a little old fashioned nanny-state socialism tossed into the mix?
This "report" is brought to you by the organization started by James O'Keefe, the "reporter" best known for his "creative editing" techniques. Reading the story one finds the "reporter" him or herself suggested the shredding of the constitution as a sort of cathartic release after be traumatized by its existence. The administrators merely agreed to participate. You guys should really learn to take anything posted by Beam Me with a grain of salt and possibly a shot of penicillin.
When my daughter was 6 and I was teaching her to ride a bike she fell and scraped her knee and asked me to kiss it for her. Now I knew kissing it wasn't going to heal it obviously. It would still need neosporin and a band-aid but I did it anyway.
No. I'm saying just because I kissed her knee didn't mean I believed in the healing power of love. These administrators weren't the ones hysterical over the constitution. They weren't the ones to suggest shredding the constitution. They just placated an emotional student. I'm not sure what we're supposed to extrapolate from this. Also this is brought to you by James O'Keefe. A proven liar.
They placated a (fake) emotional (fake) student and treated her like a 6-year-old instead of challenging her (fake) ideas. Either these professors are stupid or they are afraid to "trigger" students or harm their "safe spaces".
Or they aren't counselors or these kids parents and just wanted to get on with their day. Also who said they didn't try? Again James O'Keefe is a proven liar. Is there any corroboration from someone who didn't lose a six figure lawsuit for misrepresentation?
Does it really matter what's edited or not? They gave in to that idiotic story and the request. They should have refused this.
First, of course it matters whether it's or how it's edited. That's why he lost a six figure lawsuit for misrepresentation you moron. Secondly, even taken at face value I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be outraged about. I know from the headlines the story is supposed to imply some anti american attitudes from those dirty liberal professors, but again, they weren't the ones to suggest the shredding of the constitution. At most they're guilty of coddling students. Woopty fucking doo.
Something else just occurred to me. Mr. Ethics in Game Journalism himself posted an article from an organization who's founder is a proven liar and also asked the question what's the big deal with editing video. [emoji23] Glorious.
So basically ... 1. Dishonest right-wing prat maneuvers professor into a situation that otherwise never would have arisen. 2. Professor tries to act in good faith in an awkward situation. 3. Dishonest right-wing prat says "Gotcha!" 4. Assorted morons lap it up like a cat drinking milk from a saucer. Does that about sum it up?
You are projecting. No one - or at least I - said anything about this being "anti american". I would find this equally objectionable if this had happened at a German University. And THAT is exactly the point: professors giving in to idiotic demands by students.
So @BeamMe really doesn't care about "ethics in journalism" any more, does he? I'm shocked. Just shocked.
I'll eat a helping of crow if it comes out that the situations in the video aren't as they are shown. At the moment I stand by my point that professors should not give in to students who feel "triggered" by some text, no matter how much the student feels it violates her "safe space". For all I care it could have been "Brave New World" instead of the US constitution that's triggered her, and I'd still find it wrong (well, I'd make an exception for "The Good That Men Do"...)
Because, some day, these students, who haven't been challenged, have been wrapped in cotton wool will leave their university "safe spaces" and will have to face the harsh reality of life, where no one will be as placating as these professors.
They are doing students like that fake student a disservice. They are creating the next wave of people who want everyone around them to shut up and change the world to their whims.
First of all they are professors, not your mommy and daddy. If anyone is creating these types of kids it's their parents. Secondly, in the article it says the professors told the fake student there was nothing they could do about the handing out of constitutions on campus. So while they helped them shred the constitution they also told them they weren't going to limit anyone else's rights because they couldn't deal. In other words you're full of shit.
Which makes challenging their ideas even more important in the universities. Not quite what the article says.
Yeah, I was going to say that the real scary part are the politicians who are all too willing to accept the power these voters would give them to force their warped sense of reality on everyone, for our own good, of course.
The reality is coddling on simple stuff does not help anyone and in the real world if someone doesn't perform their job because they want to be coddled their boss will just fire them and find someone who can do the job without so much hand holding. Most states are at will states so they can fire you at any time without even giving you a reason. Schools should be preparing students for the real world, especially colleges, not protecting them from harsh realities because it might hurt their feelings. That is a general comment and not specific to the video being discussed in the OP which I did not bother to watch.
