    That was a theory going back to at least the 90's because Swamp Thing (the comics) used it.
    Swamp Thing is a plant elemental, and he finds out fungus has an elemental, and he sees its memories in a mind-meld that it's extraterrestrial, and rode along on the dinosaur asteroid.
