The first commercial I've ever heard explicitly targeting Gen Xers . . .

It was on Spotify and I thought it was going to be a podcast of either nostalgia or life advice.

    Nope.

    It was the AARP calling.

All the baby-boomer retirement ads had boomer rock music in 'em.
Apparently, none of the grunge bands sold out to advertisers.
I dunno if I feel left out, or spared.
    A weird mixture of both.
I'm sure the Germans have a word for it.

Personally I think NIN's Every Day is Exactly the Same is probably the perfect gen-X song for the old age home. I am also pretty sure some Nirvana would remind us all to shoot ourselves. I could see it being very profitable for the fake hip people to play Van Halen's Jump.

I'm 43, so I've been wrestling with the "I'm not old, but I'm not young" feeling for a while now. The AARP is not helping.

I am watching a major shift in the retirement communities down here in florida right now. Covid put the boomers in charge of community activities. There is a shift of performers who do things like sinatra performances to those who play things like Billy Joel and more woodstock music. Personally, I love a lot of the stuff that came out in the late 50s-70s.

The communities are struggling to get people out to activities because the old clubs the pre-boomers set up are not getting the boomers to come out to the clubhouse. Things like bridge and canasta clubs are dying and the neo-elderly are much more familiar with socializing and gameplaying on their phones and computers.

Also, down here in florida you have multiple different aging groups that have access to the money for retirement communities. You have haitians, multiple hispanic nationalities, american blacks, and a huge variety of multilingual europeans and asians. It is a whole new world down here in southern florida. That is not to mention the glbt groups in the retirement and assisted living communities.

I am seeing the hispanics and GLBT people taking the reigns on a lot of activities for the communities because they want to do it, and a lot of the older white americans just do not have the life experience of having to do these events because they never had to do community reach out and organization like minorities.

I am about to be 49 in the next week or so, and I have gotten neuropathy and some other pre-mature aging troubles from my sugar intake and other drug use. The great thing is I have the baby face. I always ended up being around people my parent's age or older as one of my groups. Plus I have been there for people who have had organ failure and hard core obesity issues. Now I am floating around the old age communities because I connect better with the older community even though I vacation with the kids at the cons just fine.

IMO there is nothing wrong with being old. It has it's new difficulties, but there is nothing more fun than chillin with a group of older people for an afternoon. Lots of talking, they know the best foods and drinks, and a lot of them have run out of fucks.

I'm still young at heart (somewhat), my body is just slipping into middle age. My legs lost their springiness a few years back and apparently I actually scar now? Oh, and I take off my glasses to read up close. That sounds like bifocal talk. :calli:

hit 54 this year... no more denying it about middle age.

Still fitting the same Levis as I did 40 years ago, have about 95% of the hair... bought my first set of reading glasses last month.

got lazy this winter and grew a real beard... now I got 30 something year old women friends calling me "daddy". Close enough to "jedi", I guess.

I ain't doing force jumps any more though.

... knees are about the only body part that screams louder than my shoulders.

    Now I need a nap.

You can hot glue and staple some extensions on there and it would look luxurious especially once the infection fever hits.

I treated my adult children to breakfast at a local restaurant recently... and I noticed that I have more fingers than I have years until I qualify for the senior discount menu. :(

So, that means 20 or so years before their ads start targeting Millennials?

Doubtful. In 20 years, we won't be able to afford retirement, and the minimum age for social security will be raised to 80. There will also be a bunch of articles saying things like "First they didn't want to work, now they don't want to retire? Why do Millennials suck so much?"

We will finally be able to own houses though. Although, that'll mostly be because the process of home ownership will consist of finding a house, and then clearing out any feral ghouls occupying the premises.

It'd be great if he got stranded, like Matt Damon in "The Martian" and unlike Matt Damon, Elon can't make shit-potatoes, and just eats his own shit, and dies.
Then the makers of all the "eat shit and die" bumper stickers and t-shirts add his face to them.
