I know that Katrina victims have had it hard, but don't be surprised if I'm not crying any about this - Ike victims didn't get even 1/4 the help that Katrina victims had.

    Gee, ya think!?!? :garamet:

In no way due to any bad decisions made at any point in their lives, I'm sure. :garamet:

How about moving the fuck away from New Orleans?!?! :bang:

I know, I know. "Can't afford to move!! :weep: "

You can afford a fucking bus ticket on $20k a year. Go where the housing is cheaper and the menial jobs are more abundant. If that means selling all of your shit so you can pack light, too fucking bad. Let that be a lesson in planning the fuck ahead rather than relying on the government to provide for you.

You have got to be one seriously disfunctional misfit to go four fucking years without accomplishing anything towards self-sufficiency.

"I'm too old to work." - Well what the fuck have you been doing your whole life that you have no skills and no income to fall back on.

"I'm disabled." - Even someone in a wheelchair can do data entry or telemarketing. And retards can stock shelves in warehouses and grocery stores. I suspect, though, that many of these "disabled" people have grown fat and diabetic sitting on their asses eating cheap food bought with government checks, to the point that their feet start to fucking decompose. And if you're too fucking ignorant and inarticulate to fill out a job application in plain goddamned English, who's fault is that? Who's efforts dictated your educational accomplishments?

And for those who are able-bodied and have posessions left to sell, FUCK YOU. Sell it all. Live in a shack for a year while you work with illegal Mexicans rebuilding flooded neighborhoods. Save up a little scratch and move someplace with better prospects. I don't want to fucking hear "this is my home" or any variation on the idea that you are entitled to a prosperous life in the location of your choosing. Even animals know to go where the food is.

I'm in no way an advocate of government assisted housing, but I really do feel for those people who may be busting their ass for $20k a year and not be able to afford at least a trailer.

The government, in some cases should share some of the blame. In N. America, the standards for homes are so high and builders need to adhere to multiple government regulations that a single house is out of reach of the people who need it most.

I say they should ease up on some of these regulations, then let the market take care of what types of homes to build, how big, or how safe the market will bear.

You're not a victim if you live in an area internationally renown for hurricanes. There's a reason why you can't get flood insurance in a flood plain.

That said, what does the federal government need with shitty trailers?

I don't buy it. Housing prices across the vast majority of the south are very, very low. In my immediate area, a quaint ~2,000SF 2BR/1BA starter home in a decent neighborhood will set you back about $40,000.

Can't get a loan in today's economy? No problem. I know about a dozen people that are currently buying through lease/purchase agreements. You don't need a loan for that. You've just got to look for them.

Yeah, imagine the awful consequences that would directly result from a two-foot wall not having an outlet on it. Good thing the government is here to save us from such horrors.

All those homeless people freezing in the winter wind because they couldn't quite afford an apartment with heating, wheelchair access, a fresh coat of paint every-so-often to impress the codes inspector, and a plug-in on every wall agree, I'm sure.
