the reason Rand seems to have "succumbed" to Trumpism is because Trumpism is the natural, inevitable outcome of the libertarian right philosophy. When you remove the checks and balances y'all are supposed to have, what you end up with is anything but democracy.

Also. I’ve been saying some version of this for over ten fucking years now.

Modern conservatives hate America. HATE it. The very existence of America is a constant hot poker in a conservative’s mind.

Trump is just the avatar of this HATRED of America.

Now they will never admit it and most likely don't realize it but they all hate it. They hate that it is multi-ethnic (and trending majority minority), they hate that it is urban (and trending more urban), they hate that it is liberal (and trending more liberal); They hate Actual America.

Instead they have some idealized past America that they worship. When everyone was white, rich and had their own 40 acres. The fact that this America never actually existed, but to the extent it did was on the back of women, minorities, immigrants and the poor, they can’t grasp/ignore/don't care.

All they can grasp is that Actual America is the opposite of their Ideal America making Actual America Actual evil and in need of destruction. It is sullying the ‘memory’ of Ideal America.

So Trump destroying America isn’t some unfortunate but tolerable byproduct of ‘owning the libs’ for this dude and other cons. It is almost the whole damn point.

Owning the libs is just the icing on their FUCK AMERICA cake.

I forget the exact numbers but in 2000 the GDP split between Gore counties and Bush counties was roughly 50/50. Now, in the 2020 election the GDP split between Biden counties and Trump counties was 70/30.

We have a once great party catapulting itself towards economic ruination. They’ve branded everyone else as part of the elites, they hate education, they hate science, and they want a dictator to be the damn answer.
