I would be upset if President Trump was removed from office but I'm not going to be marching in the streets over it. The great thing about American politics is that "there is always next year." Trump supporters can comfort themselves with the knowledge that they can destroy the next Democratic president.

You may find this hard to believe, but I would not support impeachment if it were simply about destroying the president. I support it because he has shown himself in flagrant violation of his oath of office, and because it is likely going to be the only way for Congress to fulfill its oversight and investigatory duties.

Rightforge should agree with this since they are so butthurt over the Smollett non prosecution. If there is significant evidence then you should present it to the court and Trump will have a chance to answer for and defend himself against the charges. Before the moron squad says it, the only reason I agree with the dismissal of the charges in the skillet case is because it is a low end first offense and that is how things normally work. In Trump's case these are higher level crimes that threaten the sovereignty and security of our nation and impeachment is not a criminal trial, just the removal of the offender in office. Trump would still get a chance to deal with criminal court to defend himself even if removed from office through impeachment. This is why the evidence presented to congress and the public may be better challenged in his criminal trial.

We also need to realize that all of the Mueller convictions are in danger if we do not impeach. After next election whether he wins or loses he is open to pardon all federal verdicts. He will not face another election so any negative backlash to those pardons goes away next election. If we want the federal charges to stay then we need to try to impeach and people should put the pressure on the right for allowing trump to pardon everyone who broke the law if they do not impeach. Even if you don't think trump is guilty those people confessed or are convicted in a court of law and they are guilty. Some of them Russian agents who interfered with the elections who trump will pardon when he can.

What previous president has declared Congress has no authority to investigate his administration and ordered his aides not to comply with lawful subpoenas?

....you do remember how America came to be America, right? ;)

Besides, the tree of liberty has to get watered by the blood of tyranny or some such jazz? Ain't the 2A designed to exist for exactly this scenario?

Those are actions. Ultimately the only actions any head of state can really take is to issue orders, using words, which in this case he has done illegally.

Irony of ironies. Many of the biggest gun rights supporters are also some of the biggest Trump supporters. They claim to defend the constitution, but cheer Trump on as he defies it. I have no doubt there are some who would rise up in arms against the fully constitutional process of impeachment. Almost as if the only part of the constitution they care about is the 2nd amendment.

It's exactly what they care about. The "freedom" they protect with their guns is the "freedom" to have guns. It's an entirely selfish and circular mentality fueled by a gun manufacturing lobby which has turned the 2nd into a marketing ploy, one which makes their playtime fantasies into something noble and just.

    Yes. Impeach him.

Make it even easier to help him win 2020.

The leadership of the Democrats in Congress understand this. That's why they keep trying to downplay it though how much longer they can keep a lid on it is anyone's guess.

Significant differences between then and now.

Clinton lied under oath. Clinton lied to the country when he said he didn't have an affair. Even though he survived the trial in the Senate the fact remains it was 100% true he lied to the country. Everyone remembers that press conference he gave. He even lied to his own people in his administration.

Al Gore was not a good candidate. Al Gore also failed to come out strongly against Clinton. He should have. Al Gore could have won had he been a little more personable and a little more tougher on Clinton. He should have worked to cleave Clinton away from the Democrat party. Forget Florida. If Gore just wins his home state of Tennessee which he and Clinton did for both of Clinton's terms Gore would have been President even without Florida.

The other big difference which of course you would disagree with is that Trump hasn't done anything illegal. No conspiracy and no obstruction. That would become immediate obvious to the country during a trial.

You also have the malfeasance and corruption of Obama's administration who spied on Trump and than tried to cover it up when he won, they went into panic mode, and they kick started this whole Russia thing to try and sabotage Trump. Things are turning and people are going to be charged and it's going to make an impeachment trial hell for the Democrats because how are they going to say Trump was doing X when all the people from the previous administration in the FBI/DOJ/CIA and the White House are facing criminal charges?

You don't want to believe it but all these people did all these things and they thought they could get away with it because they all believed that there was no way Trump would win and that Clinton would win in a landslide. So there are paperwork trails everywhere. They believed, correctly, that everything they had been doing would be swept under the rug. When she lost all hell broke loose and they did everything they could to cover it up. That meant pushing forward with the fake dossier to distract the country and later the Mueller appointment.

Barr wasn't using the wrong word when he said that Trump was spied on. We've got Inspector Generals about to drop their reports and we have US attorney's investigating already. Everyone was waiting for Mueller to get out of the way and now that he has you're going to start seeing movement.

So while the Democrats try to impeach Trump they are going to run into a massive problem of all the people from Obama's administration being charged.

But please do impeach Trump. :D

So what are you saying here?

There's really no good reason for it to be a right so people have invented one so they can keep their toys?

If so that's possibly the first thing we've agreed on in days.
