I like this show. An ex-"psychic", a mentalist who used his ability to read people to convince them he had psychic powers. But he pissed off a serial killer, "Red John", when he claimed that he was helping the police track him down - so the guy murdered his wife and daughter. And now he uses his mentalist skills to really help to police, and tells people how there is "no such things as real psychic powers". It's nice to see a skeptic on a TV show who isn't always proven wrong.
I haven't decided whether or not I like this one yet....so far it's pretty good and on a side note....everytime i hear the title i think of Mentalist from over at TK....weird huh?
My brother convinced me to watch the series premiere. It was pretty good. I've got the second one recorded just haven't had the chance to see it yet. It's definitely worth a chance.
The Mentalist is doing very well in the ratings. Here are the Neilsen final results for Tuesday, Sept. 30. 8:00 NCIS (CBS)..........................17.470 million viewers House (FOX)........................12.978 " Oppotunity Knocks (ABC).........5.960 " 9:00 The Mentalist (CBS)...............15.484 " Fringe (FOX)......................... 9.906 " Dancing with the Stars (ABC)...15.491 " The Biggest Loser (NBC) averaged 7.390 million viewers from 8:00 to 10:00.
Skeptics definitely get short shrift on TV (look at Scully who was wrong every damn episode of The X-Files). Here's hoping that changes. I am a little concerned that Patrick's skepticism seems to stem from him being jaded rather than logical though. It sets up the old cliche where the "angry" skeptic makes peace with god/his guilt/the world/whatever and believes in the supernatural again. Bruno Heller did great with Rome so I'm hoping it doesn't go down that way. Robin Tunney and Sprague Grayden also get the separated-at-birth award. I spent almost the entire pilot episode thinking the female FBI agent was the chick from Jericho.
