Well, Tampa is probably the better team, but not by much over Philly. Mostly I'm rooting for Scott Kazmir to throw a couple of brilliant games including the clincher and pick up the World Series MVP, because since my team's long gone there's nothing more fun left to root for than the chance to watch Mets fans cry.
The Phillies won game 3 to take a 2 games to 1 lead. It was a good game. Moyer pitched great and should have allowed only one run instead of three---the first base ump missed a call that led to 2 runs in the 7th inning. I can see how the ump missed it---on those bang-bang plays at first base they go by the sounds of the foot hitting the base and the ball hitting the glove. Ryan Howard bare handed the ball and the ump must not have heard it. I liked how Upton pretty much scored the tying run single-handedly by singling then stealing 2nd and 3rd and scoring on a sacrifice fly. But the Phillies won the game in the 9th on a rare set of circumstances. Werth got hit by a pitch, stole 2nd, and went to 3rd on a throwing error. After the Rays walked the bases loaded to set up a force at the plate, the Phillies batter (I forget who) knocked in the winning run by hitting a 45 foot squibber to third base.
Rain delay in the bottom of the 6th in game 5. From the looks of things, I wonder if they'll be able to resume it before Wednesday.
No baseball tonight. Hopefully things clear up by tomorrow. I'm glad the rain delay worked out the way it did. It would have been a real shame if one of the teams won on a short game. I want the Phillies to win, but when it was 2-1, I kept hoping either for the Rays to score or the sky to clear.
is it typical to let players get away with running between bases like Werth did tonight stealing second? the umpiring looked fairly biased again too, maybe Selig realised he screwed Philadelphia over the other night waiting for Tampa to tie the game and felt he owed them one tonight.
