A number of high-profile Jewish groups are denouncing Democratic presidential contender Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s false remarks that “Ashkenazi Jews and Chinese” people are “most immune” to Covid-19.

Speaking at a dinner in New York City earlier this week, Kennedy said “there’s an argument that it is ethnically targeted,” according to video shared by the New York Post on Saturday.

“Covid-19 is targeted to attack Caucasians and Black people. The people who are most immune are Ashkenazi Jews and Chinese,” Kennedy said, adding that “we don’t know whether it’s deliberately targeted that or not.”

Ashkenazi Jews trace their roots to Central and Eastern Europe and represent a majority of the US Jewish population.

The American Jewish Committee told CNN in a statement Saturday that Kennedy’s “assertion that Covid was genetically engineered to spare Jewish and Chinese people is deeply offensive and incredibly dangerous.”

After a broad backlash to his comments, first reported by the New York Post, Kennedy took to Twitter to defend himself, calling the reporting “mistaken” and writing that he did not believe Covid-19 had been deliberately engineered against specific ethnicities.

“I have never, ever suggested that the Covid-19 virus was targeted to spare Jews,” Kennedy wrote.

Instead, Kennedy claimed, he had meant to express his belief that the United States and other governments were developing “ethnically targeted bioweapons,” broadly citing a 2021 study on genetic susceptibility to Covid-19 as “proof of concept” that such bioweapons could be created.

Media Matters reported on Thursday that Kennedy and his anti-vaccine group Children's Health Defense have promoted online host James Corbett, who is a 9/11 and Sandy Hook truther. On top of that, Corbett has also peddled antisemitic conspiracy theories that Adolf Hitler was a member of a Jewish banking family, claiming “Hitler was a Rothschild” and “Hitler and the Nazis were one hundred percent completely and utterly set up… by the international banking community and the international crony capitalists.” During a November 2021 appearance on Corbett’s online show, Kennedy thanked the fringe streamer for his “extraordinary work for keeping the public informed so that we can actually maybe restore some democracy to the world.” Additionally, the CHD has propped up Corbett as “an expert on geopolitics and open-source journalism” while frequently featuring him on its programming.

I have massive respect for Dr. Cornel West. I was pleased when he chose to run on the Green Party ticket rather than the People's Party ticket, because People's Party is a joke party that hasn't even filed to vote in 48 states. They're not serious contenders, and have no intention of being more than what they are: a money making grift.

That said, I have voted for Greens in the past many times. Voted for Bob Fitrakis many years ago, he was such an intelligent, introspective, thoughtful man. Of course he didn't win because the two party system is powerful as shit, but at the time I truly supported what he represented. I think people forget that you're supposed to be voting for someone you believe represents your best ideas, someone who will do their best to address your needs, and the needs of your community. The US desperately needs to break out of this duopoly, because we deserve better than a "lesser" evil, we deserve someone who is actually good. I will often vote on the Green Party platform because their positions are what I endorse.

All of that said, Joe Biden is certainly half a bowl of shit (compared to Trump's full bowl of shit), but RFK's definitely a whole bowl of shit, it's just the other half is stuck underneath the bottom. His positions are just awful, and you can see he's just grasping at any position that makes him either popular or able to stand out. He's trying to court the Republicans, just like Donald Trump is trying to court the Democrats with his "I'll give Ukraine more money than Joe Biden ever will" schtick.

Like you, I will toss my vote in for Cornel West, because I support what he represents. He's anti-war, anti-imperialism, pro-immigration, pro-LGBTQ+, pro-housing, pro-student loan forgiveness, pro-Palestine, among other things. Those things are deeply important to me.
